“We’re merely going for a hike,” Sage answers.

I snort. She’s a liar.

“It’s a magnificent afternoon for a stroll,” Cayenne adds.

It’s gray and rain is on its way. There’s nothing magnificent about this day.

“Oh look. Someone finally bought the empty lot,” Clove says.

I keep walking. I have no interest in the local gossip about who’s living where. If they want to talk about who’s banging who, I’m interested. Although, maybe not today.

Diva tugs on her leash before escaping my hold. “Diva!” I shout as I chase after her. She flies across the empty lot and straight into the arms of Cedar.

Cedar? I come to a screeching halt when I realize he’s standing in front of his tiny house. But we’re not out in the forest. We’re smack dab in the middle of town. A mere two blocks from Main Street.

“What are you doing here?”

“Yeah, Cedar, tell her,” Ashlyn shouts.

I scan the yard to discover nearly every inhabitant of Winter Falls is here. My sisters, Gabrielle and Elizabeth, are standing with their men, Phoenix and River. I don’t spot Olivia, but the West sisters are here along with their partners as are Cedar’s parents.

“Hi, Cassie,” Raven waves.

“What is everyone doing here?” I ask the crowd.

“We’re here to witness—”

I cut Elizabeth off. “I want to hear your answer,” I tell Cedar.

He places Diva on the ground, and she rushes off to Juniper who picks her up and cradles her like a baby.

“This outfit is adorable on her!” Juniper isn’t wrong. Diva’s dress today is a pink tutu.

“Don’t you dare think about dressing our pets in clothes,” Maverick says. The movie star doesn’t appear very Hollywood now as he strains to keep their dogs under control.

“It’d only be fair since she’s the one sending me outfits for Diva,” I tell him.

Juniper scowls at me. “You weren’t supposed to tell.”

Before I can answer, Aspen waddles over to us. “Please tell me your toilet is already hooked up to the sewage. You know what? I don’t care.”

She pushes past us and enters the tiny house.

“Sorry. Sorry,” Lyric apologizes as he follows her. “She’s seven months pregnant.”

“Did you get rid of the compost toilet?” I ask just before Aspen squeals.

“What the hell is this?”

Cedar closes his eyes and his chin dips to his chest. “This is not how my grand gesture was supposed to go.”

“I’m here!” Cole announces as he joins us.

Color me confused. I barely know Ellery’s fiancé. Don’t get me wrong. I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but they have a baby and I manage a bar. We don’t exactly have the same schedules.

“Why are you here?”

He hands Cedar a sheaf of papers and waves before walking off. I stare after him. “That was weird.”
