I walked out of the kitchen and saw Conner standing in the hall.

“What the hell is going on? I walked in and walked right back out.”

“I’ll tell you later.”

“Is it safe to go in there?” His brow arched. “I really need a cup of coffee.”

“It’s safe, bro.” I patted his shoulder and walked away.

CHAPTER8

Georgia

I wanted to get the girls something when I asked them to stand up at our wedding. Since my last patient was at four o’clock, I headed to Sugarfina because I remembered seeing an adorable candy gift set the last time I was there.

“Hi.” A young girl smiled when I stepped inside. “Is there anything I can help you with?”

“Hi. I’m looking for the ‘Will You Be My Bridesmaid’ candy gift set.”

“Those are right over here. How many do you need?”

“Eight.”

She pulled the boxes from the shelf. “There’s only seven here. Let me run in the back and see if we have more.”

As I was waiting, a Facetime call from Nikki came through.

“Hey.” I smiled.

“Yes!” she shouted. “I would be honored to be one of your bridesmaids. But you already knew that. The flowers you sent are gorgeous.”

“I’m happy you like them.” I grinned.

“Where are you? Are you at Sugarfina?”

“Yes. I’m picking these up for the rest of the girls. What do you think?” I turned the camera around and showed her the box of candy.”

“Oh. Those are adorable. They’ll love them. Shit. I’ll call you later. I’m needed in the ER.”

“Okay.” I smiled.

“You are in luck.” The young girl approached me. “I found one in the back.”

“Perfect.”

I headed to the Hallmark store down the street and picked up some tissue paper and eight gift bags. It was five forty-five when I arrived home, and everyone would be over at six-thirty, which meant I had forty-five minutes to get everything ready. As I was cleaning up the kitchen, a text message from Sebastian came through.

“I’m on my way home with the pizza, salad, and subs. I’ll drop them off.”

“Thank you, Sebastian.”

Grabbing the stick vac, I ran it across the wood floors. The front door opened, and Jackson walked in.

“Hey, babe. What can I do to help?” he asked as he kissed my lips.

“Go change before everyone gets here. Sebastian is on his way with the food.”

Just as I said that, the sliding door opened, and Sebastian stepped inside, holding three large boxes of pizza and a bag with subs in it.
