“There you are, Dad,” Ella walked into my office. “What’s going on in here?” She looked at all of us.

“Nothing, kiddo. I’ll be home soon, and we can finish our game.”

“Is that a brain tumor?” She pointed to the monitor.

“Yes, sweetheart,” I spoke.

She held her arms up for me to pick her up. I did and brought her closer to the monitor.

“That’s bad, Uncle Jackson. Very bad.”

“I know it is. That’s what we call an inoperable brain tumor.”

“No tumor is inoperable, Uncle Jackson. “If there’s a will, there’s a way.”

“You think so?” I smiled.

“I know so.”

“Come on, my little genius.” Nathan took her from me. “I want you to go home and let us adults finish talking. I’ll be home soon.” He kissed her forehead and set her down.

“Okay, Dad.”

“Excuse me, little one,” Conner spoke and pointed to his cheek. “You know the rule when you see me.”

“Sorry, Uncle Conner.” She giggled and kissed his cheek.

She walked over to Christian and kissed his cheek.

“Let me know if you need help figuring out how to remove that tumor,” she spoke to me before walking out of my office.

I chuckled and shook my head.

“You may want to take her up on that,” Nathan said. “She probably has the answers.”

“Okay. Anyway, back to Uncle Ian. God, that’s so weird to say,” Conner said. “When are you telling our cousins?”

“You know Simon is going to lose his shit, right?” Nathan’s brow arched.

“I know. I already thought about that.”

“Well, the bright side in all this is that we have two more cousins/doctors in the family that we get to know,” Christian said. “And you said they were cool, right?”

“Yeah, I mean, they seemed to be. You know, thinking back on it. I felt this connection to Grayson when we had dinner. I felt like I was talking to one of you guys. It felt natural to talk to him.”

CHAPTER23

Jackson

The following day, I stopped at the hospital in between patients to see Ian. When I walked into the room, he was looking at his phone.

“How are you feeling?” I asked.

“Not bad.” His lips gave way to a small smile.

“Have you told Grayson and Gabriel yet?” I asked as I checked his vitals and his chart.

“No. Not yet. I’ve lied to them their entire lives, and I’m not sure they can handle two lies at once.”
