Fuck.

She looked good in dark jeans and a t-shirt, and if it weren’t for the five other members of the team, in various stages of rest on the plane, I would’ve been sorely tempted to find out how much I could resist.

Or how far she would let me take things before pulling the plug.

And I couldn’t stop thinking about all of the filthy things she would say in the meantime.

Rein it in, Holt. This is a business trip, remember? And she is Serena’s best friend. Serena will serve you your balls on a silver platter if you mess with her.

No matter how I felt about Meghan, I wasn’t willing to endure my sister’s wrath.

Not yet at least.

“You must have something better to do.”

I took another sip of my drink and gave her a suggestive look. “I can think of other things I’d rather do.”

“Me too.”

“Is that so?”

Meghan reached underneath her and set the laptop down between us with a thud. “Yeah, I just can’t wait to go over the budget and projection sheets.”

I got up and sat down on the seat next to her. “We can go over them together since we have nothing better to do.”

Meghan gestured to her book and looked away from me. “Ihave better things to do. You’re just bored, and I’m not here for your entertainment.”

“So, you don’t want the chance to show off how much work you’ve gotten done?”

Meghan’s head whipped around, and her eyes were wide and watchful. “How do you know how much work I’ve done?”

I shrugged. “Because I know you. You probably couldn’t sleep, so you stayed up working, and you’ve been working up until a few minutes ago.”

Meghan’s expression turned smug as she leaned away from me. “So, you’ve got nothing better to do than watch me. That’s just sad.”

“I like to keep track of things.”

Meghan drummed her fingers against the table while we waited for the laptop to start. Then she got up and brushed past me, the floral smell of her wafting up my nostrils. After checking on her cat in the back room, she returned to find me flipping through her book, my drink in my other hand.

Wordlessly, she pushed my leg away and sat down next to me. “Enjoying the smut?”

I took a long sip of my drink. “Immensely.”

In the reflection of the window, I saw her draw her bottom lip between her teeth, and a furrow appeared between her brows. She opened up a few documents and pushed the laptop, so it was in the middle, offering me a clear view of the spreadsheets. When she leaned over the keyboard, her shirt rose up, and I caught a brief glimpse of the tattoo on her back. It had thin, snaking lines coming up her side in a delicate pattern, like vines growing on a wall.Interesting, I thought to myself. She continued to surprise me.

“I’m still trying to figure out the best way to maximize the use of space,” Meghan began. “We want it to be as functional as possible without compromising the view of the water.”

I set my drink down and cleared my throat. “It’ll need to be wider, not higher.”

Meghan twisted to face me and frowned. “You do realize we’re sharing the space with other resorts? We don’t own the beach.”

“Yet. We could buy it, couldn't we?”

Meghan shook her head. “I don’t think it’s for sale.”

“Everything and everyone has a price. Besides, if you don’t want to compromise on the view, this is how we get it done.”

Meghan pursed her lips together. “You can’t throw money at everything and think that’s going to fix things. We need to be smart, strategic and avoid pissing off any locals.”
