I wasn’t worried about Finn anymore. He had his freedom and I didn’t expect to see his face again.

Apollyn was a different ball game altogether. I had no idea where he came from or where he was hiding. I mean, where did former demon kings hide these days? The likely answer was on another realm. He used to be king; I was sure he had allies in every corner of almost every realm.

I had no idea where Mika was and didn’t know if she would return to the shop. As a newly turned vampire, she would be very unpredictable. If she didn’t get herself in check, she’d end up in an urn too. I heard there were vampire hunters in the city and they wouldn’t hesitate to put a stake inside of her fledgling heart.

Loki, the cat, yawned and then glanced up at me with his bright green eyes as if to question my sanity. I often wondered if the damn cat had more sense than I thought. Either way, Ihad grown attached to him for some reason. When he wasn’t out dodging the guards in Shadow World, he was by my side.

“I’m going to do this, Loki, and if I don’t come back, you’ll be the last one on Earth to have seen me.”

I reached into my handbag and started pulling out all of the elements for the spell. I sat cross-legged in front of the mirror. The blasted thing exhibited the same behaviors it did when I first encountered it in Aunt Naima’s shop. I only saw my reflection and Loki’s reflection, but nothing else.Weird.And yet, the mystery of the mirror wasn’t what I was focused on anyway. It was the anchor today. In the future, I’d figure out how such an heirloom came to our family.

I pet Loki on the head. “I don’t think it’s true. That I’ll get stuck over there. Even if I do, it’s worth it if I can be with my men again, don’t you think, Loki?”

Loki meowed.

“I thought about taking you with me, but I can’t risk it. This is my decision and I have to face it alone. Besides, if I never come back, who’s going to be here to deliver this message to my sister.” I placed a locket onto Loki’s collar. A handwritten note folded up inside was addressed directly to my sister. “This is for Sydney just in case. She has a matching locket, so she’ll know how to retrieve the message. I only wished she had left me a note just like this one.” I sighed. “But maybe it’s a good thing she didn’t.”

Loki ran off and began drinking water from his bowl.

I was wreck, talking to a cat like it was a human.

“Okay…here goes nothing…” I prepped the elements for the spell. “Magical anchor mirror. My blood. Finn’s blood. Aunt Naima’s ashes. My messenger and a goodbye note.” I rubbed Loki’s back and he purred. Then I inhaled and exhaled slowly before beginning the spell.

My hands moved in intricate patterns as I spoke, and a faint, otherworldly hum filled the air, growing in intensity.

“…Vasdio Orbitus Angiuum Nomaairum Acraaina.

Acraaina Orbitus Asime.”

Nothing happened and I dipped my fingers in the mixture again and repeated the spell. Candles flickered all around me in my apartment. Loki sat beside me and stared wildly through the mirror. We were both waiting for something to happen.

“Why isn’t this working? If that son of a bitch tricked me…”

I lunged for the mirror and out of my fingertips shot a beam of electric blue light. I didn't hesitate as the swirling vortex within the reflection beckoned me in. With a flash of brilliance I vanished into a portal that seemed to open up beneath my feet. The darkness below me swallowed my body and I felt like I had plummeted into a bottomless pit. The roaring waves of the sea rushed over me and I was swept away in an icy-cold funnel. Blinding light and deafening rings welcomed me from the other side, but made me shudder in fear.

Before I had time to brace myself, I landed heavily, the soles of my feet slamming heavily onto the ground. Suddenly my eyes snapped open as I felt the whooshing of air past my lips. Time seemed to freeze in place as I gazed upon them, all three of them. Altair and Morpheus, with Dominik in tow, standing in front of me like a scene out of a dream. I could hardly believe my eyes—the spell had worked. They were just as still and stunned as I was, unsure if what we were seeing was reality. It was as if I had stepped into an alternate dimension—Aunt Naima's old shop, complete with her books and trinkets, just like before. Their expressions slowly contorted into disbelief as we stared in silence, the magnitude of this moment finally setting in.

Altair surged forward and I lunged after him. Colliding in a passionate embrace, I could hardly believe he was real. I pressed my face to his chest, breathing in his essence. We released each other and I stared into his eyes to make sure it was true. His arms wrapped around me and my heart swelled with joy.

“Sadie?” he murmured. I wept into his chest, overwhelmed with relief and disbelief.

"I'm so sorry...I...I tried. It's all my fault...I wanted..." The words wouldn't fit into a coherent sentence. I felt like my mind was spinning, trying to put my feelings into words.

“It’s alright,” Altair soothed me.

“Is this really you? Am I dreaming?” I asked, barely able to contain my excitement.

Morpheus and Dominik shared in the joy of the reunion.

“You’re here,” Dominik said, his voice choked with emotion.

I pulled back and looked up at them. “This isn’t a dream.”

Dominik leaned back, disbelief on his face. "We saw you come through the portal. We weren't sure at first, but here you are. The entrance we watched you pass through has now gone."

I glanced behind me, observing that what had once been a gateway, was now a wall of nothingness. Even if Finn was right about me being stuck over here, I didn’t care. I had accomplished what I wanted. I was with them again.

Something clicked between the three of us and I wasn’t sure who made the first move, but I ended up with my lips pressed to Altair’s. We kissed until my core heated and my soul felt whole again. None of them could wait their turn as I moved between three sets of arms and allowed them to shower me with passionate kisses. We were feverish and hungry. I wanted to allow them to devour me whole.
