“It was more than a little. What you took almost cost me my soul to get back?”

“I can see that sister. You said it—you figuratively sold your soul to three devils. And you can’t seem to live without them now.”

“That’s not how it happened and you don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Well, explain.”

I folded my arms across my chest. “I don’t have to explain anything to you.”

“What I took, you were never going to use anyway.”

“What did you take other than the magic in my blood?”

“Your darker powers. The dangerous powers. The ones that would’ve made you a sinner. Powers you were never supposed to wield anyway,” he said. “Powers that will lure you to sacrifice anything to get what you want and feel no guilt about it afterward.”

“What do you mean? Never supposed to wield…”

“You were never a fan of dark magic, Sadie. Your sister was…but you…you’re the nice one. That’s what I thought, at least.” He shrugged. “Maybe I was wrong.”

“You underestimated me. Tried to kill me to get what you wanted.”

“It was fruitless. Look at me now. Are you going to send me back or not?”

I thrust out my fingers and forced Finn to bow and cave to his knees on the stones. With a twist of my wrist, a rapidly spinning funnel cloud formed from thin air. The cloud coiled around Finn’s throat like a rope. He threw his hand up to his throat, butI only pulled more, squeezing all of the magic he stole from me out of him.

“Those powers you took…? I want them back.”

He was speechless, grabbing at his throat as if he couldn’t breathe.

“You feel that, Finn? That’s power.”

Taking back what was mine felt so surreal and satisfying, it was almost better than sex with three demons.Not.Nothing was better than being with Altair, Morpheus, and Dominik.

When it was over with, he collapsed on the floor, gasping, trying to get his bearings. “Whew! Sister! That was…fuck! Where’d you learn to do that?”

I folded my arms across my chest. “I had a lot of time crafting spells after you tried to kill me. Defense spells. Dark spells. Spells you probably never want me to use.Get up.I’m going to send you back to the earth realm. If you renege on our agreement and that includes going after my sister, I’ll have your heart carved out and hand it to your mother.”

He held up his hands. “I get it. You’re something to fear now. As long as you leave me alone, I’ll walk a wide girth around you and avoid you and your devils. In fact, we don’t even have to see each other ever again after this.”

I frowned. “I hope that’s the case. For your sake.”

“I also have one more thing for you, dear sister.” He looked at the ground and then up at me. A sinister expression clouded his face. “I should tell you something. While I’ve provided you with the spell to physically be with your demons again and inhabit the same dimension as them, just know that they’ll likely never come back without that sacrifice—whatever it may be.”

“Wh-what are you saying? You talk as if you know what that is? You talk as if you know I won’t make sacrifices for what I want.”

“Right, but with this spell, you’ll see them, but they’ll just stay there forever without the reversal and sacrifice. That aunt of yours wasn’t as innocent as you believed her to be. But neither was your mother. Neither are you apparently.”

“Don’t talk about my mother!” My breath caught in my throat. I swallowed down bile along with my next words. I didn’t want to jinx myself by saying it, but I was willing to do anything to succeed.

Finn continued. “Here’s your warning. If you cross over there, there’s a chance you might not be able to come back either. You got what you wanted so I hope you have a nice life fornicating with monsters. If you choose.”

Those were his final words as he used what little magic I left him with to teleport out of the Shadow World.

Chapter 7

Sadie

Inever thought I’d end up back where I was. My old apartment brought back so many memories of loneliness, especially after my sister disappeared, but I figured it was the safest place for me to conduct the spell. My protective barriers never failed here.
