It’s silent.

I want to object. All I want is to be free. Free to see the olive trees in person.

Then a voice cuts through the silence.

“I object.” It’s a deep voice, one that almost reverberates throughout my body.

Gasps sound around the room. The look of anger in Lorenzo’s eyes makes me shrink back.

I turn to see who spoke.

And when I do, I see the most handsome man I can imagine looking at me as if I already belong to him.

CHAPTER2

Dario

I’m at Tommaso Vitale’s daughter’s wedding for one thing and one thing only.

Pia Vitale.

She’s a myth around these parts. The daughter that Tommaso locked away after his wife mysteriously disappeared. Rumor has it that Tommaso killed his wife, but that’s never been confirmed. Even Pia was rumored to be fake.

But here she is. Flesh and blood. Standing in front of Lorenzo Esposito, who, in my mind, is a motherfucking loser and doesn’t deserve to lay his hands on Pia.

Even though I’m seeing her for the first time, I’ve been planning this day for a while. As the only remaining heir to the Santoro bloodline, I’m head of the Santoro mafia in Naples, Italy. Tommaso is the other mob boss in the region. Suffice it to say, we haven’t always gotten along. So when news spread that Tommaso was finally marrying his daughter off to some shmuck, I knew I had to be there.

I had to be there to steal her away for myself.

And looking at her now, she was well worth the wait.

“Dario,” Tommaso snarls as he stands up and approaches me. “What are you doing here? I know I didn’t invite you.”

I skirt out of his reach and end up in the aisle. “You know me, Tommaso. Which means you know I never ask anyone or anything for permission.”

“Permission? Permission for what?”

The crowd of people watches us curiously. Out of the corner of my eye, I see some of Tommaso’s guards stand at attention, ready to strike if need be.

“To take your daughter.” I whistle, and a group of my men bursts into the room.

Tommaso’s eyes widen as his face reddens. “Stop him!” His guards head my way.

Now’s my time.

I run up to Pia and grab her hand. “Apologies,” I say to her. “But you’re coming with me.” I give Lorenzo a wink. “Say goodbye now.”

“What?” Lorenzo lunges forward and grabs Pia’s other hand. She’s stuck between us. “No. She’s to be my bride.”

The priest scurries away, not wanting to be in the middle.

“No. She’s mine,” I growl.

Pia jerks away from both of us, her head whipping back and forth as she looks between us. Then she turns away and runs.

I smirk. Nice try, princess, but I’m coming for you.

Both Lorenzo and I go after her.
