She shrugs.

“Why are you asking these questions now?”

She huffs and signs fast, making it difficult for me to understand. What if I don’t live up to them?

I grab her face and kiss her hard. “How can you ask me that? I married you. I wanted you, so I took you for myself. I’ve saved you on so many occasions. How can you ask that question? You mean more to me than any of those women. Trust me. Pia, where is this coming from?”

I have no experience. I literally can’t even talk. How can I ever measure up?

“The women of my past are not even worthy of the ground you walk on. They were just flings for fun. I never truly cared about any of them. But with you …” Shit. I’m in love with you. “With you, I care so deeply. I don’t know how else to make it clearer to you.”

She looks into my eyes for a moment, like she’s searching to see if I’m being honest. It seems she finds what she’s looking for because she nods.Ok. I believe you.She pauses.I care for you, too.

“Is that why you got jealous right now?” I can’t stop a smug grin from crossing my face. Pia rolls her eyes and swats at my chest, but she’s smiling.

I’m not jealous.

“I beg to differ.”

She huffs.Fine. Maybe I got jealous. Everything is so new to me. I got a little insecure.

“It’s understandable.” I stroke her hip. “But, Pia, you never need to worry about anything like that. Not with me.”

She inhales shakily before letting it out.Ok. I’ll try.

“Good. Now come here.” I pull her in closer, so she’s resting on top of me. “I think I need to kiss you again.”

Piaand I spend the rest of the evening exploring each other, getting to know one another, and having fun. It’s the best fucking night of my life.

But we can’t stay in bed forever.

In the morning, we head down for breakfast, holding hands, neither wanting to let go of the other.

Pia doesn’t let go of me even as I start making breakfast.

“Good morning,” Adelina says bubbly, bouncing into the room.

Pia and I share a smile.

“You two look happy,” Adelina comments while taking a seat at the table. “I imagined that you’d look more worried after yesterday's craziness. Especially you, Dario. You’re always worried.”

“I am not.”

“Not what?” Serafina asks, strolling in.

“I was saying that Dario’s always worried.”

Serafina pauses then snorts. “That’s true.” She sits next to her sister.

“I do not,” I grumble, turning on the stove. Pia pats my arm comfortingly.

“You two look surprisingly happy,” Serafina says, looking between Pia and me. “Almost like the cat that ate the canary. What’s going on?”

I shrug. “Nothing that concerns you.”

“I said the same thing,” Adelina adds. “They look suspiciously happy after yesterday. I assumed Dario would come to breakfast this morning under a rain cloud, but it seems the sun is shining on you today, brother.”
