“Ready?” he asked.

“Yes,” she whispered. He took her hand, helping her from her seat, and grabbed the bag of food. “Let’s go then,” he ordered. Bossy Blaze was someone she could handle. She liked it when he was bossy and demanding and Blaze promised to give her that and so much more tonight. Her inner goddess was almost giddy with anticipation.

Blaze pulled into his driveway and Blair felt as though her heart might beat out of her chest. She didn’t know why she was so nervous. This wasn’t her first time. Heck, this wasn’t her first time with Blaze, but it felt important. As important as telling him yes to moving in with him, and her fight or flight was starting to kick in. Blaze seemed to be able to read her damn mind again because he took her hand into his and squeezed it.

“You still okay?” he asked.

“No,” she breathed, “but, I will be. I guess I’m just a bit nervous.”

“It’s just me, Blair. I promise not to push you for too much,” he reminded.

She took a deep breath and let it back out. “Thank you, Blaze,” she whispered. “I think that I was putting too much pressure on tonight and myself. I needed that reminder.”

“No problem. How about we take tonight slow too? Dinner first, and then, we can talk or whatever.”

“Talk?” she squeaked.

“Or whatever,” he added, bobbing his eyebrows at her.

Blair giggled and nodded, “I think that I’m good with whatever part. But I’m starving and dinner sounds great. Can we still eat in your bed?” she asked. She liked the idea of cuddling in next to Blaze to eat her dinner.

“That sounds like a perfect plan,” he agreed. He grabbed the bag of food from the back seat and helped her out of his truck. His place had always felt so cozy to her. She loved staying there with him, but for some reason, when he asked her to move in with him, it started to feel more like a prison.

“Not much has changed since you’ve been here last,” he said. “I did get a new bed.”

“You got a new bed?” she asked.

“Yeah, I couldn’t sleep in my old bed once you left. I can’t tell you why—there was nothing wrong with it. I decided to try a new mattress and it worked.”

“I’m sorry that I ruined your mattress for you, Blaze,” she said.

“You didn’t ruin anything. I think that I just missed you. No, I know that I missed you, Blair.”

“I missed you too, Blaze,” she admitted. He opened the front door and took her jacket from her, leaving it and her purse downstairs. Blaze grabbed the bag of food and her hand, tugging her along up the stairs to his room. The master bedroom was the one at the top of the stairs. She walked in and looked around, half expecting the place to feel differently.

“You’re right,” she said, “this place hasn’t changed much.” He laid a blanket over his comforter and helped her up onto the bed. “It’s like a picnic,” she said.

“Yeah, that’s what I was going for,” he said. “So, you approve?”

“I do,” she said, “and, I love that there are no bugs on our picnic.” He laughed and sat down next to her, the bed dipping with his weight, and handed her the takeout container with her dinner inside.

“Shoot, forgot the silverware and drinks. Is beer okay? If I had known that you were coming over, I would have bought some of the wine that you like.”

“Beer sounds good to me,” she agreed.

“Be right back,” he promised, leaning in to kiss her lips. She wanted to wrap her arms around his neck and tell him to stay, but he had promised her dinner first.

She could hear him rummaging around downstairs in the kitchen as she tried to patiently wait for him. When he reappeared a few minutes later holding a few bottles of beer and utensils for them both, she almost wanted to cheer. “I was going to send out a search party,” she teased.

“No need,” he assured, “I found everything.” He popped the lid from her beer and handed it to her with her knife and fork. “That should be everything.”

“Thank you,” she said, pulling the lid from her dinner. “Mmm, it smells so good.”

“It does. We got the same thing. Dig in,” he ordered. Blaze sat back down next to her, and she cut her steak and took the first bite, humming her approval.

“Good?” he asked.
