“Okay-then, tomorrow night,” he insisted. “That is if you’re good with going out with a regular guy like me.”

“Let’s see—tomorrow night I have—” she didn’t finish her thought. He quietly waited her out and her friend seemed to have the same idea.

“What, Katie?” her friend asked. “What do you have planned for tomorrow night?” she asked. He had to admit, he liked her friend.

“Um, nothing,” Katie admitted. “I have nothing tomorrow night and would love to go to dinner.” She looked her friend over as if proud of the fact that she took her up on her silent challenge.

“Finally,” the blond breathed, sitting back in her seat.

“I’ll give you my cell number and you can just text me where and when to meet you,” Katie said. She grabbed a piece of paper and a pen, writing down her information for him. Daryl pulled his cell phone out of his loincloth and dialed the number on the paper. Her cell rang and she pulled it from her purse to answer it.

“Hello,” she said.

“It’s just me,” Daryl whispered into the phone. “I just wanted to make sure that you gave me a real number.” Yeah—that made him sound totally pathetic, but he didn’t care. He’d gotten quite a few fake numbers over the past few weeks. Women who had agreed to go on a date with him suddenly had cell phone problems or had given him a fake number. His favorite was the woman from the Asian restaurant last week who answered the phone, only speaking Chinese. He was really getting sick of the run around the female population was giving him and checking things out beforehand might have made him sound pathetic, but it’s what he’d been reduced to.

“You get many fake numbers, Cupid?” the blond asked.

“You’d be surprised,” he admitted.

“I wouldn’t do that to you,” Katie promised.

He nodded, “I’m afraid that dinner won’t be this fancy,” he said.

“Perfect,” Katie agreed. “I’m not a fan of stuffy places like this. Besides, my favorite food is pizza if that helps.”

“Ah—a woman after my own heart,” he said. “Pizza it is then. I know the perfect place across town. I’ll text you in the morning.”

“Sounds great,” Katie agreed. As he stood, Daryl still felt a little wobbly, but he’d already overstayed his welcome. That was evident in the way that the host was mean-mugging him from across the room.

“See you tomorrow,” he said back over his shoulder.

“See you tomorrow, Cupid,” she said.

Ace

Repo walked into their little club’s bar and nodded over at him. Ace had only met the guy a handful of times, but he seemed like good people. “You called me in, Ace?” Repo asked. He had and Ace knew that today was going to be tough for the club’s new prospect, but clubs like the Smokey Bandits didn’t need to patch in a bunch of pussies. They needed men who were willing to do the job no matter how dirty or in this case—illegal.

“Yeah,” Ace said. “Thanks for coming in so fast, man. I have a little job for you.” He knew that as a prospect Repo wouldn’t be able to tell him no. Hell, any request, big or small, had to be carried out by the club’s prospects or they were out—no questions asked, and no second chances given. And Ace took great pleasure in making Repo squirm for his chance to prove himself.

When Savage called him and asked if he’d be willing to patch over one of Savage Hell’s members, he refused. Hell, he told Savage to go fuck himself, but then his old rival chuckled and reminded him that they were sister clubs, under the Royal Bastards, and that all he had to do was make a few calls and have the Smokey Bandits put on probation for not following the charter rules they all pledged to live by. So, Ace agreed to Savage’s request with a few tweaks of his own. Namely—Repo could join the Bandits, but as a new prospect, and he’d have to work his way up the chains just like everyone else. Savage bulked at the idea but when Repo agreed, the conversation was over. Ace had his new prospect, Repo had a way into the Bandits, and Savage left him the fuck alone.

Repo sat up at the bar and looked across at Ace. He knew better than to talk unless he was told to speak. Repo was following all the fucking rules and damn if that didn’t take away some of his fun. “So, you interested?” Ace questioned.

“You and I both know damn good and well that I won’t tell you no, Ace. So, what’s the gig?” Repo grumbled. Ace chuckled and shook his head at Repo’s dramatics. He was right though, telling Ace no would mean immediate removal from the Bandits.

“This isn’t going to be an easy job, man,” Ace said. “And I’m pretty sure that it’s not legal either.”

Repo groaned, “Fuck, man. Cat will have my balls if I end up in handcuffs. I’m the one who bails people out of jail, not the other way around.”

“I get it,” Ace lied. He didn’t understand the predicament Repo was in at all. His Ol’lady took off on him to get with another club member and took his daughter with her. It had been months since he heard from Charity or saw his kid and that fucking sucked. He honestly was done with Charity. The minute she let one of his guys touch her, she wasn’t a part of his life anymore. But he wanted to see his daughter. He wanted to be a part of her life but first, he was going to have to find where Charity and that fucker Rooster took her. As soon as his ex and her new fuck found out that he was on to them, they took off like the cowards they were, taking his little Arabella with them. His daughter was only six months old and the thought of her growing up without him in her life made him sick. She needed him and he needed her—that’s where Repo came in.

“You own a security company?” Ace asked.
