“Since our work is done, I’ll go join everyone else at practice.” I gesture toward the door.

Dr. Carlisle gives me a small smile. “Good work, Shayna.”

My shoulders relax. “Thank you.”

I rush out toward the practice field. My phone buzzes in my back pocket when I’m halfway there.

Lee:I want to celebrate tonight. You free to come to my place for dinner?

My steps slow as I take in his words. Dinner? That sounds like a date.

As if he can read my mind, another text comes through.

Lee:Not like a date or anything. Just a way for me to say thank you. And maybe a little sex for dessert.

I chuckle and guiltily scan the immediate area, more paranoid due to Dr. Carlisle’s accusatory eyes on us moments ago.

Me:Sure, what time?

Lee:Say 7pm

Me:See you then.

Holy shit, I’m going to have sex with Lee Burrows tonight. New panties and bra, shave and lotion up, wax, shit I need to get a wax job!

But I can’t think about that right now. Right now, I need to focus on my job, because if I start thinking about Lee and all the things we might do to each other tonight, there’s a pretty good chance my blush will give me away. No one on the Kingsmen can know that I’m sleeping with their starting quarterback.

I arrive at Lee’s a couple of minutes before seven, feeling as if I’m on some kind of spy mission. I felt as if every person I passed along the sidewalk toward Lee’s building knew where I was going and what I was going to do. And then once I was in Lee’s building and past the concierge, it felt as if the handful of people in the elevator with me were giving me judgmental looks.

Talk about paranoid—I even looked over my shoulder after each step.

I know it’s all in my head, but I didn’t realize that sneaking around would be this stressful.

Lee’s waiting for me when the elevator doors open. He’s dressed in dark denim and a button-down maroon shirt. It’s untucked and the sleeves are rolled up to reveal his strong forearms.

I opted for dark denim also, but I have on a red shirt and black pumps.

“Hey, shy pie. You look great.”

He wastes no time anchoring me to him with one arm around my waist and his other hand brushing away my stray hair, locking his lips to mine. He smells fantastic and tastes even better. Our kiss turns into a hug and I inhale his cologne, wanting to embed this moment into my memory forever.

Lee’s hands slide up and down my back until he pulls away. “If we keep that up, we won’t get to dinner.”

I give him a cheeky smile and trail my finger down his chest. “I don’t mind skipping dinner.”

It’s true. All I thought about today was rolling around naked with Lee all night.

He chuckles and leads me into his condo toward the kitchen, his hand in mine.

“It smells fantastic in here.” I glance around the kitchen and see a frying pan on the professional range and a cutting board. Somehow I thought he would have ordered takeout. “Did you make dinner yourself?”

I step over to the stove to see a mixture of thin slices of meat along with vegetables and pasta in a frying pan.

“Why do you sound so surprised?” He opens one of the cupboards and sets two plates on the counter.

“I figured you’d probably have food brought in or maybe a chef. It’s unusual for the league’s top quarterback and bachelor to also know how to cook.”

He shakes his head playfully. “Always underestimating me.” Lee uses the spatula to dish the meal onto the two plates. “Truth is, when I was growing up, either I cooked or starved.” He shrugs. “And bowls of cereal and Ramen noodles didn’t do it for me when I was a growing teenage boy.” He winks, playing off his childhood.
