She nods.

“Probably just keep doing what we’re doing until it’s clear that we can’t any longer. It’s too good. I don’t want to give it up before I have to.”

She hugs me with her free hand. “I’m sorry. I wish there was an easy answer for you.”

I hug her back and rest my head on her shoulder. “Me too.”

We stand like that for a minute before she speaks. “He must be giving you some goodDthough if you’re willing to stick around for the heartbreak.”

I laugh and pull away. “You have no idea.” Just the thought causes my body to heat all over.

“Oh man, I’m so jealous. I’m not getting any good dick from anyone right now.”

I take my drink from the dresser and lock our elbows. “Let’s go see who’s downstairs and see if we can fix that for you, shall we? It’ll help keep my mind off a certain quarterback.”

“Good luck with that. That Zorro costume is sexy.”

“Right?” I laugh and make my way downstairs, determined to make this a fun night even if I know that heartbreak might be around the corner.

Twenty-Nine

Lee

The only good thing about Bryce finding out about Shayna and me was that I was able to convince Shayna to head back to my place after the Halloween party, rather than spend the night at Bryce’s. Since she didn’t have to keep up appearances for her friend, she agreed, and I thanked her by waking her with my face between her legs.

This is a bye week, and since we won our last two games against Kansas City and Los Angeles, we have a few days off the regular schedule.

I plate our omelets, set them on the tray that already has orange juice and coffee on it, and walk it into my bedroom. “Breakfast.”

Shayna rolls over to face me, naked under the sheets, with her arms stretched overhead. “Wow. You spoil me.” She arranges herself so she’s propped up against the headboard with the dark sheet pulled over her chest.

“I aim to please.” I walk around the other side of the bed and deposit the tray on her lap, then kiss her forehead.

“This looks great.” She beams.

I go back around the bed to my side and slip in under the covers. “I was out of bacon, sorry.”

“Can you even eat bacon?” She picks up the glass of orange juice.

“No, the nutritionists at the Kingsmen consider it blasphemy during the season, but you can.” I take my plate from the tray.

Shayna chuckles and picks up her cutlery to dig in.

We eat in silence for a minute, but I can tell she wants to say something. The energy wafting off her is far too intense for this time of day.

“What is it?” I ask.

She swallows and sips her orange juice. “What’s what?”

“I can hear you thinking from here. What’s on your mind?” I spear some egg and bring it to my mouth.

With a sigh, she sets down her cutlery. “We have to be more careful.”

I frown. “Would it really be that bad if anyone found out?”

Her head whips in my direction. “Are you serious right now? Of course it would.”

“Bryce already knows. What if we just told Miles? He’d never tell anyone. It would give us a little room to breathe if the people we’re closest to know.”
