“She looks exactly like me, Bish. Allison confirmed it when I confronted her and that was all I needed.” He opens his mouth but I cut him off. “You ask me to get a DNA test and I’ll punch you in the fucking mouth. She’s mine, Bishop.” He nods solemnly.

“King, you need to talk to Knight.” I tense at the mention of our little bother.

“Why? Shouldn’t you be more focused on finding Car?” He growls.

“I know where she is. She has a tail on her all hours of the day and night. Don’t fucking question my loyalty to my family, I’d never let her get too far.” I nod, of course the control freak wouldn’t. I don’t blame Car for leaving. This family can suck the life out of you and she has been through so fucking much already. That’s the only reason Bish and I haven’t gone after her because unlike Kiara, Car isn’t a fighter, she’s a runner. “Speak to Knight.”

“Why?” A shudder rolls through Bishop and that has me on edge. Bishop never reacts to anything except if it involves Kiara.

“I would take the blame for the rest of my life if it meant he didn’t have to have you look at him the way you look at me.”

“The fuck are you talking about, Bishop?” I’m about to lose my shit soon. He moves toward me and places a hand on my shoulder. I want to knock it away but I remain still. We haven’t seen eye to eye for a long fucking time since he told me to give up Christine and she died months later.

“It wasn’t me, brother,” he whispers.

“Huh?” Dread begins to pool inside me.

“I took the blame because it was easier for you to think it was me—”

“Spit it the fuck out, now!” I snap. He nods but I can see he is hesitant.

“Okay, fine. Here it is, brother. I told you to get rid of her because she was fucking Knight. She used you to get to our brother and asked him to do something—” I stumble back and smack against the wall shaking my head, denying what he is saying. We were toxic but she wouldn’t do that to me, would she? “I never killed her, King. I swear to you on my honor. It wasn’t me, brother. You need to talk to Knight.”

“What the fuck for?” I yell.

“Because there is more to the story and it is his to tell, not mine.”

After scoping out the joint for a few hours, I drop Luka and Mav back to their cars and head back to Allison’s. I need to hear what Knight has to say, Bishop wouldn’t throw him under the bus or rat him out like that if it wasn’t important. The further I have pulled away from Bish, Knight has done the same to me and I can feel it in my bones that Bishop is telling the truth. I scan the street as I park and I see a few cars but they don’t look out of the ordinary. I race up the stairs and use my key to open the door. It’s nearly midnight so I know Amelia won’t be up and it guts me, but in order to keep her safe, I need to take down these families in order for her to be free of the burden we were all faced with. Knight and Rook jump to their feet at the sound of the door opening, Knight has his gun in hand and I quirk a brow at him as he tucks in back into his shorts.

“How’d it go?” I ignore Rook’s question as I grab a beer from the fridge and drop down into the recliner opposite them.

“Allison asleep?” I ask instead of answering.

“Yeah, she tried to wait up for you but I think the excitement of today wore her out.” He chuckles but Knight and I remain silent. I slowly look to Knight. He won’t even meet my gaze and I haven’t the time or patience to baby him, so I cut right to the chase.

“What happened with you and Christine?” He doesn’t flinch or even react, Rook on the other hand gapes at his twin.

“The fuck are you talking about, Knight—” Knight cuts Rook off.

“It was all going good, she was going to tell you the truth about us, but then something changed.” My hand clenches my beer so tight I fear I may shatter it. He’s speaking like a robot with no emotion. “She pulled back from me. I tried to get the information out of her but she wouldn’t say. You two broke up and she was… Then months passed and she called…” I can see in his eyes he is reliving the memory. Hearing my brother speak about the woman I loved and how he was fucking her behind my back kills me. I want to beat the shit out of him and hurt him till he bleeds, but I guess I think I always knew Knight fancied Christine.

“What the fuck did she ask you, Knight?” Rook hedges his twin. Knight finally looks me in the eyes and I see it in the depths of his brown eyes just how broken my brother is over this.

“She called me, she told me we could be together and that we needed to meet. I showed up and was ready to come to you that night and tell you the truth, that we loved each other but then she got out of the car. Her belly was so big… I choked up. I thought it was mine and that’s why she called.” I stare at him in horror. He knew about Amelia and never said a word! “She told me we could be together if I did one tiny thing for her…”

“What was it?” I ask him barely above a whisper. I’m sure I know what he is about to say and I prepare myself for it.

“She said I had to kill you.” Rook gasps in horror, while I just stare at Knight. I figured the crazy bitch would do something like that.

“What happened after that?” I push, his eyes glaze over as he recites what happened.

“She told me the baby wasn’t mine. I asked if it was yours and she said no. My heart broke. She told me we could say it was mine if I just did her the tiny favor of ending your life. She wanted me to kill my own fucking brother!” he shouts, then scrubs a hand down his face. Rook moves forward and places a hand on his back in comfort, but I can’t. I need to know what he decided.

“What happened next?” I can hear the rage in my own voice. He looks to me and I see it in his eyes, the truth.

“I told her she had lost her fucking mind. She fucked with my head so bad, King. I thought I loved her.” I nod.
