“Him,”I said as I jabbed my fork in the direction of the brooding Aiden.

Aiden lifted his gaze, and instead of the shutdown look he had when he had entered, his eyes were now ablaze with fury.

“What the fuck is it any of your business?”He asked.

The tone of his anger had Gideon’s eyes snapping up from his plate. He looked between us, waiting to see how this conversation was going to unfold.

“It’s all of our fucking business when she starts avoiding us the way she did just now,”I said.

“Seems like that’s not a me problem,”Aiden sneered.

“Whoa, what the fuck, Aiden,”Oliver cut in.

I could feel my anger seeping into my veins and I knew this was going to go too far. Standing, I took my plate and Brooklyn’s to the sink. She had barely eaten anything, so I took her food and put it into a small glass container to save in the fridge in case she got hungry later. The motion helped me clear my head before turning back to my brothers.

“It’s clear you have a harder time being in a relationship. But that doesn’t mean you get to fuck this up for the rest of us. I will not lose her, because you’re a prick,”I said.

Aiden had the audacity to roll his eyes, and I wanted to punch him in the face. Gideon eyed me, and I knew for a split second he could read my mind. I knew Gideon wasn’t happy with the news Aiden wasn’t treating Brooklyn right, but he had always defended Aiden, since they were children. He wouldn’t sit by if I decided to follow through with my thoughts.

“If you can’t hold on to your girlfriend, that is definitely not my issue. Sounds like you should work a little harder and get her screaming your name, Jax,”Aiden said.

I didn’t even know I was moving until Gideon was in front of me, pushing me back. Oliver was on his feet as well, looking at the stairs, probably worried Brooklyn would hear us fighting. Aiden just sat with his scotch, eyeing me as if I were nothing but a fly for him to flick aside.

“That’s enough, Aiden. You’re being a dick. Go be a dick somewhere else,”Gideon growled.

“Whatever. You all are too fucking sensitive. I got no time for it,”Aiden replied.

Standing, he took his scotch and left his plate on the island. He disappeared down the hall into his office. The door slammed behind him, putting an end to the conversation. Gideon, Oliver and I stood in the kitchen, silence surrounding us except for my heavy breathing.

“What are you thinking happened?”Gideon asked quietly.

“I have no idea. But it’s clear it was him who upset her today and him she’s avoiding. Did they spend time together today?”I asked.

“Yeah, Aiden texted me to let me know he sent Frank home and that he was bringing Brooklyn home,”Gideon said.

We went silent again, all of us in our own minds trying to figure out what could have happened during a drive home. It was enough to send Brooklyn into a spiral.

“Jaxon, why don’t you go see if you can talk to Brooklyn? See if you can figure out what’s going on and maybe help clear up whatever it is?”Oliver said.

I nodded, not that I needed his suggestion, I was already planning on going to her. Gideon finally stepped back, once he was sure I wasn’t going to storm after Aiden and try to beat the crap out of him in his office. Even if I did think he deserved it, it wasn’t going to accomplish anything. And I was sure Brooklyn wouldn’t be thrilled with us physically fighting in the house.

Leaving the kitchen, I took the stairs two at a time until I was on the second floor landing. Brooklyn’s room was right in the middle of the floor, which is why it was previously the guest room. It was her room now. I couldn’t see it as a guest room ever again. I knocked lightly on the door and once I heard her quiet voice, I entered.

The room was dark, and I knew immediately she wasn’t actually working. I could see her laying in the middle of the hugebed we had gotten custom made. Since she started staying with us, there was never a night she was alone and more often than not, two of us were with her. The larger bed made all activities much easier to accomplish.

Right now, the only activity I was thinking about was consoling her. She lifted her head to look over at me. I went to the bathroom and flicked on a small light so I could see her face. Her eyes were puffy, a sure sign that she had been crying. My anger threatened to overflow again, but as she watched me, I knew I couldn’t let her see that.

“Hey, love. Can I join you?”I asked.

She just nodded and flipped back the comforter. I quickly shed my clothes. As usual, I wasn’t wearing underwear, but I wasn’t climbing into bed with Brooklyn for sex. I slid under the comforter and pulled Brooklyn close. She laid her head on my chest and curled an arm around my stomach.

“What’s going on, Brooklyn?”I asked when she just laid silently for a long moment.

She was quiet long enough that I started to wonder if she’d confide in me.

“Is it right for me to talk to you about one of your brothers?”She finally asked.

That was a decent question. We had never been in a relationship that was healthy like it was with Brooklyn. Before, when we were all in a relationship with the woman named Missy. It was a constant unhealthy stream of events. Jealousy, competition, comparisons and more. We didn’t know what was really happening until the end, when she tried to pull us all apart. She wanted us all, but she wanted us to fight over her.
