Chapter

Thirty-Two

Gideon

Hearing Cain’s words,I felt a cold fist settle in my stomach. The darkness Cain was using was the same as what was within me, every day, I chose to not utilize or let out. His was on the surface, so easy to be an advantage and not a liability. I looked over at Jaxon, because I knew Cain was a person hehad once known well. My brother’s face gave away nothing, so I continued to keep my face neutral as well.

I knew none of us were above torturing the information out of Missy. The problem was what to do with her after. She was active on social media, was considered an influencer. Her disappearance would be noted, and that was heat none of us needed, Cain included. I had to trust that Cain knew all of these things too, and wouldn’t be too risky with his knife.

Missy was contemplating Cain’s words. Her eyes stared up at him without blinking for a long moment.

“Fine. I’ll answer Aiden’s question,”she finally said.

“Go ahead, you can speak.”Cain looked up at us and we all waited for her answer.

“She’s gone.”

Cain frowned and looked down at her again. His knife knicking her just enough that a small stream of blood appear and she flinched away.

“I answered the question!”Missy screamed.

“I wouldn’t move much more. You’re going to make my knife happier without it doing one thing,”Cain said, looking up at Aiden with an raised eyebrow.

“That’s not an answer, Missy. Don’t fucking lie to us. You have no power here.”Aiden’s hands were rolled into fists, gripped so tightly his knuckles stuck out white against his tanned skin.

“That’s where you’re wrong, lover.”Missy’s voice was back to the fake purr she liked to use on us. The sound made my teeth grind.

I knew what she meant. She had the power to keep whatever information she had about Brooklyn from us. The longer she evaded our questions, the longer Brooklyn wasn’t with us. A heavy thought also sat in my mind. If we had Missy here, that meant Lyle had Brooklyn to himself and there was no knowingwhat he was doing to her. I wasn’t sure I could stomach even trying to imagine what my girl was going through.

I saw Aiden nod slightly to Cain, and I focused back on the scene in front of me, pushing the overwhelming dread away, so I could work to find Brooklyn. Cain bent to focus on Missy and her breath became shallow as she anticipated the pain he promised with his eyes. His knife skated down her throat and he pressed into her flesh above her collarbone. She cried out as a clean line of blood appeared.

“Missy, where is Brooklyn?”Aiden asked again.

Missy’s head fell forward when Cain released her chin, allowing her to make eye contact with Aiden. Her pale skin was marked with Cain’s fingerprints, and I knew she would be covered in bruises once we were done with her. She tried to look at the cut on her chest, but Cain grabbed her chin and made her look up again.

“You should be careful how you answer this time, yeah?”He spoke right into her ear, his breath making her hair move and Missy tried to shift away.

She looked into Aiden’s eyes, fire lit behind the pain on her face. Anger tightened her features.

“I don’t know what you boys thought would happen when you snatched me. Did you think I would just admit to something or give up all my information without something in return? That’s laughable. I made it this far, without any of you, on my fucking own. I know how to come out on top, no matter what. You aren’t going to get what you want in this basement.”Missy’s body seemed to relax, and she actually leaned into Cain as if she wanted his hands on her.

“What do you want?”Oliver’s voice was quiet, but it cut through to the point.

Missy’s smile was a predator, looking over its most recent kill.“I thought I was clear about that, Oli. I want my rightfulplace back. With you, in your empire, sitting at the top with you as your queen.”

“It’s about the money then,”Aiden said.

“Oh, come on, lover, that’s just a piece of it. Of course, a large shiny piece.”

“We’ll never welcome you back into our lives.”Oliver’s voice was stone, leaving no room for argument, even if Missy had other plans.

“Oli, baby, you don’t know how good we could be again,”Missy said. Her smile had softened, and she was back to trying to seduce us into giving her what she wanted.

“We are here for one reason, and that’s to find our woman. That woman isn’t you,”Aiden said.

Cain’s laugh boiled up and spilled out into the basement. Missy’s face turned into a sneer as Cain grabbed her chin again and leaned down.

“You are barking up the wrong tree there, yeah?”
