Shay caught on. “Drinking.”

“Day drinking.”

“Fuck. Let’s pretend we’re in college again.”

Caden gave me a wolfish grin as we finalized the details of when to meet up. Shay had a plan to go and ‘piss off’ Kennedy, preferably in the shower, and catching how Caden was looking at me, I was thinking he had similar intent.

I started to rise up from the bed, but he caught me, lifting me fully in the air. “Caden!” But my body was already responding. And as he carried me to the bathroom, the shower turned on, and within a moment, my back was pushed up against the wall.

I loved my husband. And I really loved how this need for him only got grew with every day.

I was panting by the time he lifted me up, growling, and then he thrust inside.

No matter what we found out today, nothing else mattered except him and I, and our family. Then I stopped thinking, and began pushing back against him because let’s make this fucking hotandfun today.

Gum was behind the bar as we walked in, and he paused in pouring a drink, one of his eyebrows lifting up. “Humans.”

I braked abruptly because there were two people sitting in front of him, but neither moved a muscle. Their backs were to us.

A big smile spread over Gum’s face and he set his bottle back down. He didn’t seem bothered by their presence. “Welcome.” That eyebrow wiggled. “You guys just had to come in and see the Gumster, didn’t you? I made an impression. It’s okay. I have adoring fans all over the seas.”

Caden asked, his tone dry, “That you telling us you’re a Mer guy?”

“Fuck no. I’m just telling you I have fans all over the seas. They all love me. Humans and Mers.”

Kennedy walked around us, giving Gum a cautious look. “Odd jokes aside, do you have food?”

And as if on command, my stomach let loose with a loud rumble.

Everyone heard. Everyone looked, even the two guys at the bar. Their eyes were glazed over so I was figuring they were too drunk to make sense of anything. But well, I guess they heard my tummy and Caden laughed, stepping to me, his hand going there as if to settle my hunger down. “I’ve not done my job today. She’s not eaten yet.”

Gum just flashed another smile and grabbed a couple menus, handing it over. “You up for drinks too?”

“I’ll have what I had last night.”

Kennedy added, “Not me. I want wine, and I’m not a wine snob. I’ll take whatever is cheapest.”

Caden gestured to Shay. “We’ll do what’s local and on tap for beer, your choice.”

“Really?”

Shay flashed him a grin. “We’re going to try and drink like we’re still in college. Should get interesting.”

“Noted.” Gum jerked up his chin as we moved to a table in the corner. It was a lower one, not a high top, and I felt a little more grounded knowing I wasn’t going to fall off my stool. Considering everything, I wasn’t feeling the most settled.

“Humans we know.”

The demon guy, Kellan, was making his way towards us. His hair was ruffled and messy. He had a sleepy smirk on his face, but as he took the seat next to Shay, his gaze skimmed over all of us. Those eyes were not sleepy. They were alert, and dark.

A nervous sensation buzzed through me, and I sat up straighter. Kennedy’s gaze was locked on him, her jaw tight. “Are you here to issue us more threats?”

He frowned at her, grabbing for a menu as his woman approached us and after a second’s hesitation, took the seat next to me. She gave me a friendly grin, but it was a little wary.

He asked Kennedy, “Did I threaten you?”

“You were going to wipe our memories.”
