What I’d missed was having Constantine close, his arms around me. The night before the prosecutor had shown up had been incredible. He’d been completely himself, relaxed to the point I’d caught him smiling more than once. I closed my eyes, allowing images of his face to drift into my mind. As soon as they did, my nipples hardened, pushing against the bodice of one of the new dresses. When he smiled, he could light up a room with his vigor and testosterone.

I took a deep whiff, still able to catch a delicious hint of his aftershave. He’d been gone for hours, but the fragrance seemed to linger. Or maybe I was just imagining it. I loved being in his office, the closeness to him that being in the room afforded me. Zane knew when he couldn’t find me anywhere else, I’d be in here.

I’d even sat up in the middle of the night watching Constantine sleep, brushing my fingers down his arm, trying to tickle him into awakening. It had seemed so natural to be by his side, as if everything was… normal.

Then all hell had broken loose. Since then, he hadn’t been himself.

We hadn’t been impassioned since then, his work keeping him up at all hours of the night. I’d found him hunkered over his desk, lines of worry crossing his face. Almost every time I’d asked, he’d told me that everything was under control.

I knew better.

At least he’d been honest enough to tell me that certain of his businesses were on hold, which I could tell made him angry. It was like walking on eggshells around him, a powder keg ready to explode.

The ache in my heart was significant.

The images in my mind disturbing.

And the desire lingering in every molecule threatened to do me in.

I pressed my forehead against the glass, sliding my fingers down the surface as I closed my eyes, allowing my imagination to be my comfort.

“What is my beautiful woman thinking about?” he asked, his voice more of a growl.

It was impossible not to smile, my heart racing.

“I’m thinking about a man who used to hunger insatiably.”

“He still exists,” he said as he slowly brushed my hair away from my shoulder. When I felt his lips against my heated skin, I shuddered audibly.

“I’ve missed you.”

“I’ve been right here.” As he dragged his tongue up from the base of my neck, my legs continued quivering.

A strangled moan slipped past my lips. “No, you haven’t. You’ve been everywhere else.”

“Just business.” Constantine nipped my ear, growling softly.

“You snuck up on me,” I purred as he wrapped his arms around my hips, dragging me against his groin. The feel of his fully engorged cock kept me breathless.

“I was watching you. You were trembling.”

“That’s because of what I was thinking about with you.”

He spun me around and I threw my arms over his shoulders. “Mmmm… dare I ask what you were thinking about?”

“I won’t tell you.”

“You will if I command you to.” He had a mischievous look on his face.

“You’ll have to spank me first,” I said then laughed.

“That can be arranged.” He cupped my chin, rubbing his thumb back and forth. Then a serious look crossed his face. “We’re going to a charity event at one of my casinos tonight.”

“You’re kidding?”

He smiled. “I can’t keep you cooped up forever, my stunning creature. And I can’t afford to miss it.”

“Is it formal?”
