“Yes.”
She laughs, giving me one of those smiles that I love so much.
“Maybe I can take you out to dinner after?” I ask, not wanting to push my luck too much.
“Maybe,” she says with a smile.
She takes my hand in hers, and I feel like the luckiest man alive as she leads me back to the hospital and up to Rhett’s room.
When we walk into his room holding hands, he just grins.
“It’s about damn time, you two!”
Lottie just leans against my side, and I smile down at her.
“We have one more surprise for you,” I start, and she looks up at me.
“I’m pregnant.”
Rhett tries to jump up to give us a hug, and the nurse glares at him until he sits back down.
“That’s awesome! Congratulations, you two!”
I let go of Lottie so she can hug her brother, and I’m right behind her.
“Are you ready to get out of here?” I ask him, and he chuckles.
“So ready.”
The nurse glares at him again, and he holds up his hands.
“Not that I haven’t loved the care here. It’s the bed,” he promises her, and she rolls her eyes before she heads out of his room.
“Making friends, I see,” I quip, and he laughs.
I grab his bag, and the nurse comes back in with a wheelchair.
“I’m going to go bring the car around,” Lottie tells us, and Rhett nods to her.
“Go help your girl,” he tells me.
I glance between him and the nurse, biting back my knowing grin before I head out after Lottie. I catch up with her before she can get on the elevator and she sighs, leaning into my side.
“What time’s the doctor’s appointment? Maybe you can get a nap in,” I say, brushing her hair back from her face.
“No, we’ll have to drop Rhett off at home, make sure that he’s situated, and then head back out.”
I rub circles on her back as we ride down to the first floor and then over to her car.
“Do you want me to drive?” I ask her.
“Where’s your truck?”
“Over there, but I’m not sure that Rhett can get in and out of that very easily,” I point out, and she nods.
“Why don’t you follow us home then? You can drive us to the doctor’s appointment.”
“Sounds good.”
