The idea that Drako could be one of the dragons who had my father was still floating around in my head. I had to keep my guard up.

"Alright, if you change your mind, let me know."

"Thank you," I replied, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek before heading inside.

When I got back to my room, I found Grayson sitting in his chair, reading through a book.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

He looked up from his book and smiled at me.

"Just catching up on some reading. How was the date with Drako?"

I sat down across from him and rubbed my temples.

"It was fine," I replied.

"Does he give off any dark dragon vibes?"

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"I don't know, but I always get a bad vibe whenever he is around. How do you know he doesn't know where Kane is? Maybe he knows who has him."

"Maybe, but I don't believe that. He seems like a nice guy. He just looks out for himself."

"How would you know?"

"Because that's what I would do. You think I would trust someone I barely know?"

I narrowed my eyes at him, annoyed with his questioning.

"Why are you suddenly so interested in him anyway?" I asked.

"I'm just curious," he replied, returning to his book.

"Curious about what?"

"About you and him."

He sounds like such a pain in the ass, I thought to myself.

"Nothing is going on between us," I replied.

"I don't believe that."

I rolled my eyes and turned to my bed, not wanting to talk anymore. I lay on top of the sheets and closed my eyes, waiting for my mind to stop racing. His presence in my room made me anxious, filling my head with thoughts of him and Drako. These thoughts were foreign to me, and I wasn't sure why they excited me so much.

In an attempt to rid myself of them, I tried to focus on the dark dragon and how to figure out who it was. I heard Grayson get up from the chair and felt my body tense up with anticipation.

He leaned over the bed and whispered, "Goodnight, Scarlett."

His hot breath against my skin made my body tingle. I stayed still and pretended to sleep, unsure about what to do about how I was feeling. The urge to touch him was overwhelming, but I fought it until I heard him leave the room. Without realizing I had been holding my breath, I let out a heavy sigh. My heart pounded in my chest as I lay in bed, confused and excited until exhaustion took over and I fell asleep.

Chapter Nine

Drako

Damon was starting to ask more questions about Scarlett. It was making me wonder if they knew something that I didn't. They seemed more suspicious than usual when it came to strangers. After my last couple of run-ins with Grayson, I was starting to wonder what was going on with the two of them. There seemed to be more than concern for Scarlett's well-being that was keeping him in town.
