"Hmm, okay."

I watched him closely while he thought to himself.

"Did you tell anyone else?" he asked.

I shook my head and he pulled up to the restaurant.

"No. I don't know anyone here except for you and Grayson. I doubt Grayson wants to hear any more of my concerns at the moment."

"What's with that guy?"

"I told you, he is just overprotective."

He nodded his head, understanding my concern but it was clear that he was getting suspicious. I wasn't sure how much longer I could keep the truth from him.

After we finished eating, he offered to drive to the auto shop to check on the progress of my car. The repairs had been more than I had anticipated when I started pulling wires from under the hood, but it gave me a good enough reason to remain in town.

When we reached the shop, the mechanic came out to greet us.

"I'm still waiting for the part," he informed us, looking me over as he spoke.

I nodded my head in acknowledgment, suddenly feeling uncomfortable from the weight of his stare. As he spoke, I shifted my weight, growing more uneasy. When he asked to speak to Drako, I eagerly agreed to wait in the car while they talked. In my haste to leave the shop, I forgot the keys to Drako's locked car and had to turn back to get them.

"Have you found out why she is here in the first place?" I heard the burly mechanic ask as I approached the office door in the back of the shop.

"She was just driving through and had trouble with her car. Although, I doubt she had done as much damage to it as you must have," Drako replied.

"I didn't have to do much to it. There were damaged wires that looked like they needed replacing for a while. She needs to take better care of her vehicle. She had to have been driving with oil leaking for a long time for it to have been as low as it was. She nearly cracked her engine. She is either very careless or someone was messing with her car. It's hard to believe she didn't notice any other signs of damage before it broke down here."

"What are you saying? Someone sabotaged her car?"

"Or she did it herself?"

"Why would she do that?"

"I don't know. To have a reason to be stuck here."

"Why would anyone want to be trapped in Shadow Crest?"

"That's a good question and Blaise will want to know the answer to it."

"I will see what I can find out. I better get to the car. She didn't get the keys from me and it's locked."

I hurried back outside to the car with my heart racing. The damage I had caused to my car was more noticeable than I had intended it to be. If he was going to start asking questions, I figured I had better come up with some answers.

When Drako returned to the car, he seemed quieter than usual.

Grayson texted and said he was on his way back to the motel. I was relieved because I wasn't sure how safe I felt being alone.

"Do you want me to walk you back to your room?" Drako asked when we got to the parking lot.

I nodded my head, and he placed his hand on mine. We stood like that for a few seconds until he finally broke the silence.

"Are you sure you want to go home alone? I'm sure I can stay with you until tomorrow if you'd like."

I looked at him and his eyes were pleading with me. I could tell he wanted to spend time with me, but I couldn't bring myself to agree.

"I appreciate the offer, but I have to try and get as much sleep as possible tonight. I'm probably overreacting anyway." I replied, feeling the uneasiness in me growing.
