"A Black Suit? Like the ones in the books?" I asked, remembering the character in The Dark Tower series by Stephen King that wore a black suit with a hood and mask.

Blaise nodded. "Yes, like that. He came here last night and left before dawn. And another man was spotted in town yesterday by the horde."

I felt my blood run cold. There was no way that I could say no. If I did, then I knew that I would be putting myself and the horde at risk.

"Fine. I'll take care of it," I said, trying to sound confident.

"Good," he replied, rising and pulling out his wallet. "This is the number where I can be reached. If you run into any problems, call that number at any time of the day or night. Once Samuel has been taken care of, call me, and I will take care of his remains. Do you understand?"

I nodded my head, took the business card from his hand and shoved it into my back pocket. As I walked out of the building, I found it hard to shake the feeling of dread that I was left with after that meeting. I got into my car and headed to the bar, hoping that Doyle might help me make sense of what had just happened.

The bar seemed quieter than usual, and I was preoccupied with thoughts of Scarlett. Damon's suspicions of her had me wondering whether things were about to get dangerous for her and possibly for me. I worried that I would be forced to choose between her and the horde.

"Come on, Drako. It's time to go," Damon said as he approached the bar.

"Where are we going?" I asked, glancing over at Doyle.

Doyle shrugged his shoulders and turned his attention to the bar patron asking for another drink.

"To check up on that girlfriend of yours," Damon replied with a wicked grin.

"I just left her at the motel less than an hour ago. I doubt she has done much of anything since."

"You would be surprised by the things that people do, Drako."

"I'll go with you," Doyle said, drying his hands with the towel he had on the counter.

"Let's go then," Damon replied, looking pleased.

I followed them reluctantly, surprised that they would allow me to tag along with them on one of their secret missions.

Damon took us through the back door of the bar and down a narrow alleyway between two buildings before we got to the motel. My heart pounded in my chest, not knowing what was about to happen. We stopped at the side of the building and waited for a moment before knocking on the window of room number 13. There was no response so Damon knocked again. Still no response.

Damon backed away from the window and looked back at Doyle. Doyle took a few steps back, pulling me back along with him. In an instant, Damon had shifted into his dragon and flew towards the trees. The force of the wind caused me to stumble back and nearly fall to the ground. "What is he doing?" I yelled out to Doyle. He stepped forward and put his arm around me, keeping me steady.

"He is going after Scarlett, you idiot!" Doyle responded angrily.

"Why? What did she do?" I asked, confused.

"He's following orders. Blaise wants to talk to her."

I shook my head. "But why now? She hasn't done anything wrong! They're going to kill her!"

Doyle looked at me with pity. "I'm sorry, Drako. Maybe he will let her go when he sees that she has been nothing but cooperative."

"You know as well as I do that he won't," I said, glancing back out towards the trees where Damon had disappeared.

Doyle took hold of my hand and squeezed it reassuringly. "Trust your instincts, Drako. No matter what happens, always trust your instincts."

I nodded and Doyle led me back toward the bar. As we walked, I felt my anxiety rising. I didn't think it was right for Damon to take such drastic action without first talking to Scarlett. What if it were the last thing I ever saw? My thoughts of Scarlett brought a smile to my lips, and I glanced over at Doyle.

"Go back inside the bar. I'm going to go look for Damon," Doyle said before shifting into his dragon and flying off in the direction of the motel.

I watched him fly off and suddenly felt very alone. I jumped when I heard the sound of someone coming up behind me. I spun around and saw a couple of drunk men walking through the alley.

Knowing that Damon was looking for Scarlett left me feeling uneasy and worried. There was no way I could sit back and do nothing. I raced towards the motel, looking for Damon and Doyle above me.

When I made it back to the room, I could see that they had been there. It was obvious that they hadn't found Scarlett yet. Then I heard her voice coming from another room. She was with Grayson. The thought of her with him wasn't pleasant but at least I knew she was safe.
