He stepped forward, giving me a stern look. I held my ground, not backing down.

"Where are we supposed to start looking? They could have run back home," I stated.

"Don't think you're getting out of this one," Damon warned, "you're going with us."

"No," I replied, shaking my head.

"She's missing for Christ's sake! We need to get everyone searching for her!" Damon bellowed, his voice echoing throughout the house. He grabbed my arm and pulled me inside the living room before I could react.

"Did you hear what I said, Drako?" he yelled.

"I heard you," I answered calmly, "but I'm not going with you."

Damon shook his head, letting go of my arm. "Why not?"

"You still haven't told me why this girl is important to Blaise. She is just some poor girl whose car broke down. If you had fixed her car sooner, she would have been gone days ago. This wild goose chase is a waste of time."

"A waste of time?!" Damon growled, turning red in the face, "Maybe we should ask Blaise what he thinks about it."

"Blaise has given Drako his own orders," Doyle interrupted, "I am sure that he would want him to be focusing on completing that task rather than assisting us with ours."

"What orders?" Damon asked, turning to look at Doyle.

"I tried getting the details from him yesterday, but you know how Blaise is about us sharing the details of our orders."

"It's nothing as important as what he gives to the two of you," I said, "but it is the first time he has trusted me with anything, so I am taking it seriously."

"That's good," Damon said, sounding almost proud, "You should take it seriously. Earning Blaise's trust and respect is a big accomplishment. It is definitely something you don't want to lose."

I stared at him and smiled weakly, agreeing with his statement. Damon turned away from me and faced Doyle, who had gone silent. The longer they lingered, the worse my anxiety got. I thought about Scarlett and Grayson hiding upstairs. My heart started to beat faster as I began to feel scared again. I knew that Damon couldn't know that I was helping Scarlett, but I had no idea what else he could possibly be suspecting me of.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps approached the front door, indicating that someone else was there. A moment later there was a knock on the door. As I moved toward the sound, Damon reached out to grab hold of me. I stopped immediately. He released my arm and let out an exasperated sigh.

"Damon, what are you doing?" I whispered.

"Just answer the door," he replied, "it's probably just a neighbor."

I nodded and slowly made my way to the door, took a deep breath, and opened the door. Standing in front of me was a man wearing a suit. I gasped involuntarily at the sight of him. His black hair was styled neatly, and his face was sharp with high cheekbones. His eyes were dark as well, giving me a strange feeling.

"Good morning, sir. I am looking for Ruby," the man said.

"You have the wrong house. There's no Ruby here," I replied, staring at the man in disbelief.

"I'm sorry for the inconvenience," the man replied with a nod before walking away.

"That was weird," Doyle said with a chuckle, "We better get going too, Damon."

"Yes, we should. We have to find that girl," Damon said, taking a step closer to me, "You will let us know if she contacts you, won't you?"

"Of course," I said with a nod.

I held my breath as they walked out of the house and watched them until they had driven away. When they were finally out of sight I exhaled, feeling my chest tighten from my anxiety.

I closed the door and locked it after going back into the house. I found Scarlett and Grayson huddled behind a curtain near the entrance to the attic, staring at me. Scarlett looked terrified while Grayson appeared angry. I swallowed hard as I stood up straight and walked further into the room. I saw them shift their gaze back at each other before they both scooted off the wall to face me.

"Are they gone?" Scarlett asked with a worried look in her eye.

I ran a hand through my hair. "We have to keep a lookout for them," I said "They will be back. They aren't going to stop looking for you until they find you."
