"How would he know I was even supposed to be looking for him?"

"His visions tell him."

"So what do we do?" I asked

"We go find Samuel, then we figure out how to defeat this evil dragon. Then we save the world." Drako said.

"Sounds like a plan," I replied, standing up.

"You won't have to look for him," Henry said, "He will find you again."

There was a brief silence as Henry walked away. The three of us exchanged questioning looks.

"Are you guys ready?" Drako asked, switching his gaze between me and Scarlett.

"Do we have a choice?" I replied.

There was another silence while we contemplated what was about to take place. The possibility that we wouldn't all make it through this alive was something we hadn't discussed but were all well aware of.

As the night went on, I tried to find a way to fill Scarlett in on Drako's plan without pissing her off so much that she went off on her own, but I was at a loss for words. She was one of the most stubborn people I knew and never did like when someone told her she couldn't do something. Her rebellious nature had intensified in the years we were apart, and I was sure if I told her she couldn't go, she would find a way to do it anyway.

Drako left before us, to make sure we weren't seen together. My stomach was tied in knots as we headed to the restaurant where Drako said Kane was being held. I looked around for anyone who might be watching as we walked.

in front of us was the restaurant Drako had gone to. The wooded area next to it was the best place for Scarlett to wait for us.

"Scarlett, stay here. I don't want anything to happen to you. If anyone comes this way, leave. Get away as fast as you can. Do not wait for us. Just save yourself." I said, hoping that she would listen.

"Why?" She asked, angry and confused, "I need to get to my father. You can't expect me to just stand around and wait for you."

"Scarlett, please," I pleaded, feeling my adrenaline rise, "We don't have time for this. Promise me you will protect yourself until we come back with your father."

She started to say something but stopped herself and crossed her arms. The hurt look on her face pulled at my heart, but I couldn't risk losing her. I took hold of her hand, my eyes pleading with her to listen.

"You have to trust me," I whispered.

Her eyes hardened and she yanked her hand out of mine. "It's not safe! Not until this is over! You want me to just run away?"

I felt helpless, knowing that if she didn't listen then I would never be able to explain myself to her.

"Scarlett..."

I was terrified that she was going to get captured and tortured and killed. There was no way that she would survive whatever they wanted to do to her. I hated the thought of leaving her alone and unprotected but there was nothing else I could do. I needed her to listen.

"Just go," She muttered, looking away from me, "I'll meet you guys later."

Without waiting to see if I would agree or not, she turned back around and marched towards the woods. I could hear her running footsteps fading as she entered the woods.

I knew I had made the right decision when she turned her back on me. I didn't want her to see me cry. Not now. I had to be strong for her, I had to show her that we could do this together.

It was quiet between us. Neither of us spoke a word to the other. I felt like I was suffocating, like someone had wrapped their hands around my throat, as if I was going to start hyperventilating any second. I glanced over at her, the sight making my insides clench. Her hair hung loose down her shoulders and her skin seemed paler than usual against her dark clothes. Her gaze fell from the sky as she stared at the ground. I reached out with my arm and rested it against her shoulder. Her breathing increased, but she didn't flinch away.

I didn't know what the fuck we were getting ourselves into, but I knew that it wasn't good. I was already scared enough and every second that I spent in fear only made me feel worse.

I took one last look at Scarlett and took a deep breath.

I hated leaving her behind, but I knew Drako was waiting for me. He wasn't going to be able to hold off on killing Kane for long without drawing suspicion and he was going to need help. The only way to help him was if Scarlett was still in one piece when we came back. I hoped that Drako wouldn't go too far. That his rage and blood lust wouldn't cloud his judgment and lead him to do something stupid.

It wasn't hard to see that he wanted revenge for his attack. It was obvious, even though he was trying to hide it. He was always looking around, ready to pounce. His muscles tensed whenever he saw someone else and his teeth clenched so tightly, sometimes, I thought that he might shatter them. The more I watched him, the worse I felt about what they had done to him.
