"Yes, he's dead..." I said quietly, still staring at the ground.

A strange look crossed Doyle's face and for the briefest moment, I thought that he was disappointed by my response. It was only for a second though.

"That's good," he said.

"Is it? What do you think will happen to me if he doesn't come back?"

His grin quickly faded to reveal a concerned expression on his face.

"You have to get out of town, man. They will be looking for you."

"What about you? If they ever find out that you helped me in any way, they will kill you too."

"Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. I'm taking off right after this. I just wanted to make sure my little cousin hadn't gotten in over his head."

"Thanks, man. Where are you going?"

"To see my dad."

"Well, you know how to reach me if you need to." I said, reaching for a handshake.

He grasped my hand firmly in both of his.

"Count on it." He replied, walking backwards toward the trees. "And remember, don't hesitate to call."

"Sure thing, dude," I said as I headed back to the building.

I was glad that Doyle had been able to help. We might not always see eye to eye, but I appreciated his sacrifice. After he left, I made sure that no one else was outside before closing and locking the door. I then went over to the kitchen and filled up a jug of water. I poured some into a cup and drank it down before placing it next to the pot. Now I just needed some sleep. As much as I hated sleeping alone, I didn't want to wake anyone up either. I sat on the bench and stared out the window. The moon illuminated the sky and casted shadows across the floorboards. I tried to keep calm, but it was becoming harder as the minutes ticked by.

"I made us breakfast before we leave."

Scarlett set the tray on the table and removed the lid. I inhaled deeply and immediately picked up a spoon. She poured two cups of coffee before taking her seat beside me. Her legs rested on top of mine and her bare feet rested against my thigh.

She wore a pink shirt and white shorts with matching sandals, exposing most of her skin. Her hair fell perfectly down her back and bounced softly with every movement. Despite the early hour, she was beautiful, and her presence alone made me feel better.

I smiled back at her before putting some food in my mouth and chewing slowly.

After finishing my meal, I placed my plate aside and leaned back against the wall.

Scarlett took note of my change in demeanor and raised an eyebrow.

"Everything alright?" She asked.

"Yeah, sorry. Just couldn't fall asleep." I said, fiddling with my hands. "There isn't anything more that I can do here. I need to get out of here."

"We will be going soon. I'll go get them up so we can get ready to leave." She said, standing up from her chair and heading towards the door.

When she was gone, I let my head rest against the wall behind me. I didn't know why I was acting so weird, but I knew I didn't wanna stay in this place any longer than I had to. I closed my eyes and began to drift off to sleep.

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my lower back and jerked awake. I groaned and rubbed the spot where it hurt.

"What're you doing? Let's go pack."

"I'm coming," I replied, jumping up out of the chair.

I grabbed a pair of jeans and a red T shirt and walked into the bathroom to try to clean up. When I finished dressing and grabbing my backpack, I met Scarlett at the door. She grabbed me into a tight hug and planted a big kiss on the top of my head.

"I love you," she said softly.
