"Can I help you, folks?" He asked as he stared intently at Scarlett.

"Yes. We need to find out what's wrong with this car," Scarlett answered.

"Looks like the engine is overheating," he said. "If you have the time, maybe I can fix it for you."

"It doesn't look that bad to me," I said.

"Well, it is. You need a new radiator and water pump. Not to mention, there's a crack in the head."

Scarlett gasped. "Is that all?"

"Pretty much."

"Well, do you think it can be fixed today?"

"No, not today. Come back by tomorrow afternoon and I'll let you know."

"Okay," Scarlett agreed.

"Drako, can I talk to you for a minute?" He asked as we turned to leave.

"Sure," I said to him before turning to Scarlett, "You can just wait for me in my car. It won't take long."

"All right," Scarlett said.

Damon led the way to the back of the shop where there was a small office. He locked the door behind us and sat down in his chair. I took a seat across from him and waited for him to speak.

"Blaise wants to see you," he said leaning back in his chair.

"Why?" I asked, confused as to why the leader of our horde had taken a sudden interest in me.

"When the leader tells you to do something you don't ask questions. He said for me to pass on the message and now the message has been passed. I wouldn't ignore it if I was you."

"Okay, I'll go see him this afternoon."

"I'll let him know," Damon responded with a nod, "He will be at Lucky's around four."

When I walked outside, I saw Scarlett arguing with a tall muscular man. I started to walk over to her and run the guy off, but it was clear that he was someone she knew. The look on her face told me he wasn't someone she was hoping to see.

The man walked away as I approached the car without saying a word. Scarlett got in the car and took a deep breath to calm herself down.

"Are you okay? Do you know that guy?" I asked as I pulled out of the parking lot.

"No. He was just some asshole. It was no big deal though," she replied, staring out of her window as we drove back to the motel.

I knew she was lying but didn't know why, but I kept my suspicions to myself. After all, we had just met. Still, I wanted to know who he was and why he was in my town.

The short ride was quiet. She seemed lost in her thoughts. It made me wonder what went on inside her head. There was so much I wanted to know about her, and I wasn't sure why that was. We said a quick goodbye when I dropped her off at her motel room. I didn't want to leave her, but I knew Blaise was waiting. Keeping the leader waiting was never a good idea.

She smiled and waved as I pulled out of the parking lot. Then turned and walked inside. I smiled at the sight of her but reminded myself that she was a stranger to me, and strangers were not supposed to be trusted. Damon had already alerted Blaise of her presence in Shadow Crest, which meant he would be keeping an eye out.

Chapter Four

Grayson

Since I arrived in town, Scarlett has been avoiding me and it was starting to piss me off. I couldn't understand why she couldn't see how reckless she was acting. I had no other choice but to go after her. There was no telling what she might get herself into if she was on her own.

My blood felt as if it was starting to boil, and I clenched my jaw at the sight of Scarlett with a strange man. She was leaning up against him, smiling like they were having a good time and my stomach turned over when she brushed her hair back behind her ear and leaned in close to whisper something into his ear while he laughed.
