Once Gerri scampered out of the room, Rhiannon rested her head in her hands.

“What the hell?” she whispered. “Gerri couldn’t be serious. Right?”

Despite her attempts to convince herself this was all one big joke from Gerri, the thought still lingered in her mind. And the name Mars Casey stuck behind too. So much so that she found herself typing his name into her laptop’s search bar and watching as the millions of results popped up on her screen.

“Shit,” she murmured. “He has his own Wikipedia page.”

Not to mention, he was more attractive than she originally remembered him being. She never paid much attention to him in the first place, far too focused on her job to notice potential suitors around her.

With Gerri’s outlandish idea, Rhiannon started imagining scenarios between herself and Mars upon their first meeting. Would it go well? Would fireworks erupt in her heart once her eyes landed on him?

Or was she going to be left with a bitter taste in her mouth once she realized that her fantasies were better than reality?

“Alpha bear shifter. Huh.” Rhiannon scrolled, clicked, and read through countless forums. She learned as much as she could about this guy, thanks to the internet sleuths who spent far too much time talking about him.

It didn’t come as a surprise to see that a lot of people were vying for his attention. Not only did they crave his money, but they wanted to be with a shifter. Analphashifter, to be precise.

Only after researching some more into what that entailed was Rhiannon’s breath truly sucked out of her lungs.

She had never dated a shifter, not to her knowledge. Based on what she was reading, they were passionate and remarkable lovers.

Leaning back in her chair, she considered that for a moment. All of her life, she had considered herself a woman who didn’t need to depend on others for her own happiness. She was successful, but only due to her own merit and hard work.

However, the opportunity that Gerri was giving her was the antithesis of what she created for herself. If it was true that she was Mars’s mate, then that meant she would be taken care of by this billionaire shifter who would give her the world to make sure she was happy. Slowly, a small frown crawled upon her face. Was that really what she wanted for herself? It’s not something she ever anticipated, but …

Shaking her head, she pushed those thoughts out of her mind. It was useless wondering about the future, and yet, she found herself wondering. Time and time again.

Then, she focused on Gerri Wilder, a woman of her word. Whenever Gerri set her mind on something, she made sure it was seen to fruition. That was what Rhiannon liked about her. She was easy to work with despite her occasional brazen tardiness.

For that reason, she found it difficult to believe that Gerri would lie to her about something like this. It didn’t seem possible, but since it came out of the mouth of Gerri Wilder, she began thinking otherwise.

Cheer up and let loose a little bit. Rhiannon clenched her jaw, listening to the little voice in her mind that told her to release that tension.Let Gerri do the heavy lifting. You’ll find a location for the shelter in no time.

With Mars Casey’s help, apparently.

Again, she went back to the articles about him. She combed through the first page of web results, leaving behind a trail of purple links and an embarrassing list of searches that included his name.

All she wanted was to find an appropriate place for her shelter. Charity work was her utmost priority.

With a few words from Gerri, her vision had shifted.

MARS

Ahistoric establishment presided in an old building situated in the heart of downtown. Casey’s Bar and Grill was a beloved spot in the community. Not only that, but it was one of Mars’s favorite places to go whenever he needed somewhere to relax.

He sat at his usual spot, the VIP table on the second floor of the business that overlooked the boisterous tables below. He watched with hooded eyes as servers bussed the tables while the bartenders performed their fancy tricks for the customers.

Swirling his drink, he took a gradual sip and gazed over the venue. It was a comfortable space, but it still had an upscale vibe that attracted youthful, affluent clients. Within the past few weeks, his business attracted more customers thanks to an article in a popular food review magazine.

“Uh, Mr. Casey?” Snapped out of his daze by one of the bodyguards, he blinked a few times and focused on the man who readjusted his collar.

“What’s wrong, Ricky?” Mars took another sip of his brown drink. “Everything good down there?”

“Peachy, sir, but uh … I got a woman trying to get in here. She says she needs to speak to you and won’t leave until she does.”

His mind raced to figure out which of his most recent flings would be callous enough to track him down at his business. Was Pauline this gutsy? No, not possible. Plus, he hadn’t talked to her in a few months. He considered Dorothy and Amanda, but they didn’t seem like viable candidates either. It wasn’t in their temperament.
