“Did she mention her name?” Mars asked, setting his drink to the side.

“Gerri?” Ricky scrunched up his nose. “Gerri Wilder? Do you know the lady?”

Mars softened. What was Gerri Wilder doing here? She was a renowned matchmaker for shifters. Of course, he knew who she was.

The bear inside him roused at the mention of that name, but he refused to get his hopes up. He knew what she had done for his friends, all the success stories that made him writhe with jealousy on the inside. Still, he kept his chin held high and a calm smile plastered on his face.

“Let her in.”

How she managed to figure out where he was, he didn’t know. What was more impressive was how she managed to get into the VIP area of the building in the first place, but Gerri had her connections and probably knew how to pull strings when needed.

Ricky did a double-take. “Are you sure?”

“Of course.”

Despite his initial reluctance, Ricky nodded and departed. A few seconds later, Gerri Wilder came in carrying a designer bag. She took off her sunglasses and exhaled deeply.

“How are you doing, Mars?”

“Fine.” Mars looked her up and down. Then, his eyes narrowed. “May I ask what you’re doing here? I wasn’t expecting a visit from you.”

“Is that a bad thing?”

“No, but you could have told me in advance,” he replied, gesturing toward the seat across from him. “I could have served you a glass of wine or something.”

“Don’t worry about that,” Gerri said, waving a hand. “I don’t like drinking on the job, anyway.”

His eyebrow perked. Whatjob?

“How did you manage to get through my bouncers?” Mars tilted his head. His ice-blue eyes were sharp enough to cut diamonds. “They’re not supposed to let anyone come up this far.”

“I have my ways of making people bend to my will.” Gerri smiled. Then, she folded her hands over her knees. “Sorry about that, but I needed to speak with you as soon as possible. This is an important matter.”

“Don’t worry about it. I’m not bothered. To haveyou, of all people, seeking me out is something that intrigues me more than anything.”

“Hah. You also have a way with words, Mr. Casey.” Gerri bowed her head with a smile. “I’ll make things brief. I’m working with a local charity organization that wants to open a new shelter downtown. There’s a problem, though. The prices here are ridiculous.”

Mars shrugged. “It’s downtown.”

“Yes, yes, but this organization wants to make a difference in the world. That’s why it’s important that they find a spot, and soon.”

Nodding, he tapped his finger along the side of his empty cup. He eyed one of his waiters, who moved promptly to fill the glass without needing to be asked verbally.

“I see,” Mars said, meeting Gerri’s determined gaze. “So what’s in it for me?”

“Simple. I’ll introduce you to your fated mate.”

He paused.My fated mate?

The bear within him hummed, joyous at the mention of such a delightful pairing. That was what most alpha shifters aimed for in life: to be successful, to provide for loved ones, and to find their fated mate. Mars was similar to the rest in that regard.

He was a man with needs, that was certain. He nabbed dates easily, and he didn’t mind spending money on the girls he was with. However, nothing was permanent. Catching feelings for someone was a useless endeavor.

Yet, with someone like Gerri Wilder around, he was reminded that the possibility of finding true love was at his fingertips. His friends had found their mates thanks to her matchmaking services.

Was the same future awaiting him?

“So?” Gerri raised a brow. “What do you say?”
