“Soon,” he said, kissing her head and taking her hand to hold on to it as he ebbed from the apartment.

She moved into the doorway, leaning against the frame to watch him walk away. He was leaving her alone, as she’d instructed. Already she was second-guessing that choice.

“It takes as long as it takes,” Rainie said into the phone for what felt like the twentieth time in ten minutes.

“I told you last night, as soon as we touched down, I wanted to tell them to fuel up and take off again… I shouldn’t be here.”

Pressing a finger into her free ear, she leaned back against the restroom stall wall. “You sound grumpy. You can’t go into your first meeting grumpy… Are you meeting the Sydney bigwigs now?”

“No, just Ethan and Lance for the updates,” he said fast, then followed it with. “Why are you whispering?”

“I’m at work, remember?”

“It’s Saturday,” he said.

“For you it’s Saturday. We’re still on Friday over here.” Getting used to the time zones would be difficult. Xander was supposed to be used to it. “And I don’t know I’ll be getting out of here any time soon. We’re trying to impress some bigshot asshole, I don’t know.”

“Maybe I should throw some business Viva’s way. Sign up a couple of my brands and tell them the only way I’ll be a happy customer is if I get unlimited access to you.”

She rolled her eyes. “People already think because I work in customer relations, I service clients, so thanks, but no thanks. No one would believe it was a coincidence anyway. We’re a mid-level firm at best, and Seven is very not mid-level.”

“Difference between mid-level and the big leagues is attitude, baby. It’s all in the attitude.”

“I’ll remember that when I’m trying to make Fortune 500.”

“We have the Summit Sponsorship. BlueGold will need representation. I’ll sign them up with Viva.”

She frowned. “Don’t you need to like set up a company before you market it? What if you sign up BlueGold and our ads cause a million percent uptick in orders? How would you satisfy demand?”

“I’ll always satisfy your demand.”

Okay, she should chastise him for being suggestive. But sexy was better than sulky and he’d been that a lot since leaving her in the apartment.

“I have to go back to work now.”

“Okay,” he said on a laugh. “Call me when you finish up. You have another hour or two?”

“Depends how long it takes to get our work done.”

“Okay.”

“Okay.”

“Bye.”

He’d been gone less than two days and already saying goodbye was difficult. She wanted him back. There was security and comfort just in knowing he was nearby. Xander was literally a world away, but it was a distance that meant nothing to her heart.

Bingham Bright was supposed to be a quick acquisition. A big one, but a quick one. That he’d been dragged halfway across the planet was already enough to piss him off. His best people were down there, and he didn’t appreciate attention seekers. The fact that the demand took him away from Rainie, well, that was a new kind of pissed off he’d have to get used to if he planned to keep working.

Ascending in the elevator to the Bingham Bright top floor, a smile teased his lips. It hadn’t occurred to him to think “if he planned to keep seeing Rainie.” As far as he was concerned, she was the priority. Everything else would fit in around her.

He twisted a fraction toward Topher just behind his shoulder. “Send the number for the florist we like to my phone.”

“Sir?” Topher asked with a note of surprise.
