“We?”

Another smile and he pushed her hair from her cheek. “We. Everything is we. Venture is half yours now anyway. This is just another plume in our portfolio.”

Panic raced her heart again. “I don’t want your company. Oh my God, please don’t say you had me sign something about that too.”

As she scrambled to check every page, he laughed.

“No, though if you want me to, I will. As soon as we get married, what’s mine will be officially yours anyway. Though there won’t be a divorce to split assets anywhere down the line, you’ll be in charge after I die.”

“Married?”

“With the kids, of course.”

“Kids?”

This wasn’t making plans, it was…

She swallowed. “You want to get married?”

“I want our future to be whatever you want it to be.”

“Rainie!” Roxie called from somewhere in the apartment.

Shit, yes, her friend was there, and she was lounging in bed screwing her apparent fiancé.

“I’m a horrible friend.”

She jumped up and grabbed her robe from the footpost and tied the belt on the way out.

Roxie was in the kitchen, a suitcase by the door. “Everybody made up,” she said, closing the fridge. “Everything you need for Crimson is in the top drawer of the desk.”

She joined her friend who kissed each of her cheeks. “You’re leaving?”

“Going back to California. Zairn’s surrounded by happy couples at the minute. I really can’t have him getting ideas. It’s my job to remind him the fairytale isn’t always so rosy.” Roxie looked past her. “Take care of her.”

“Always,” Xander said. He must have followed her from the bedroom. He appeared around her to give Roxie a kiss. “Dennis on the tarmac?”

“Ready and waiting,” Roxie said, tossing her hair over her shoulder. “Trevor and his crew just hang next door. Zairn’s paying them, so you can use them for security. They should do something.” Xander nodded. “Our car service is on constant notice. Make use of them too. Tibbs has given Topher all the details.”

“Thanks, Rox. Tell that guy of yours to keep a closer eye on you.”

“Yeah, that won’t be happening,” Roxie said. “Remember what I said about living here too. The apartment’s just sitting here doing nothing anyway. It will be good for this place to have some life in it again.”

“Zairn and Kintyre are in Knox’s place in LA.”

“Yeah, well, Knox is there too, and he bought this place for Jane. He’s housing everyone. What a guy.” Roxie’s playfulness would be missed. Her friend laid a smile on her. “You okay?” She nodded. “I’m always just a phone call away if there’s anything you need. What’s ours is yours, anywhere in the world.”

And now that she had her passport, the possibility of that was even more real. “You’ve been amazing. You kept everything together, me included. But I still want to meet your guy.”

“You will,” Roxie said, gesturing around. “Someone will get married first, somewhere in our circle. Zairn loves a good wedding.”

“No, he doesn’t,” Xander said on a snicker.

Roxie’s mouth closed in a glare. “He’s never been to one with me. Weddings make me horny.”

“I’ll remember that.”

“Wasn’t he at Jane and Knox’s wedding with you?” Roxie and Xander made eye contact. What were they…? Their smiles sloped slowly and eventually became a laugh. “Okay, so what am I missing?”
