“And Hippo-something-les?”

“Hopitles.”

“Exactly,” I said, making an awkward gun-like move with my fingers to affirm. “I have time before I have to go.”

He stared at me, those silver eyes burning in the sexiest way possible. Even if his expression was unreadable and his fingers painfully dug into my jaw, it was like something inside him changed, and the feud between us softened somewhat.

“You scared of mice?”

I shook my head. “Just spiders.”

He let go of my face as he looked at the ceiling, clicking his tongue as if he was to make a huge mistake when he decided what to do with me. Blazing, hot silver eyes landed on mine again and made my belly flop. Like a blacksmith hammered my heated spine into shape.

He radiated electrical energy. Perfect for a last name like he’d inherited.

“Well?” I shuffled on my feet. My armpits started to sweat. The way he held my gaze was almost unsettling, especially with the turmoil of mixed feelings in my chest.

I saw the decision flash through his eyes when one corner of his mouth tilted into a smirk. “I do feed them rats, too, sometimes.”

I gulped. Those were big and gross. “Really?”

“Mm-hmm. You up for that?”

Was I up for that? Could I feed cute little mice and scary rats to a snake? I guessed if it meant booking some progress with my new stepbrother, I might as well give it a shot.

“Sure.”

Surprising me, his big hand slid into my small one. “Don’t pass out or vomit. I’m not a chivalrous knight in shining armor, and I made myself clear already what I think about bodily fluids. My jizz, your puke.”

Got it.

But what about my cum on his fingers?

I didn’t ask. He took me to his room, willingly and without sexually harassing me or complaining about my presence. Small steps, big achievements.

Turned out, I’d loved Hopitles slithering on my arm as much as he’d loved Ares. I didn’t pass out, nor did I puke. And I didn’t mind when Ares threw me out unceremoniously because it happened right after I mentioned that he could smile with his eyes.

DITA

Amazing!

I twirled around for the third time, loving my curves in this dress. It was as if I got poured into it.

“I absolutely adore these, Steph. You create magic with needle and thread.”

“Glad you like it, babe.” She filled our plastic champagne glasses with the rosé I’d gotten for us. “Flashy colors mesh so well with your skin tone. If only I didn’t look as pale as a fresh cleaned window.”

“Those are see-through.”

“Exactly. Translucent, that’s what my skin is. I reject the sun. Bounces right off of me.”

“You’re cute as a button, Steph!” Her freckles and green eyes were features girls dreamed of.

She twirled a strand of her red highlighted hair between her fingers. “Maybe. But sometimes I just wish I was sexy, you know? Like you.”

I sat down onto the beige plush floor. How they kept the floor this neat was a mystery. But I guess designers had their ways.
