“You want to feel sexy?” I asked. Steph nodded, pushing her bottom lip out into a pout. I unlocked my phone to open my music app and searched for one of the hottest songs I knew. “I know a way. Get up!”

Always up for some fun, she took my hands and helped me to my feet. I showed her the basics while exotic songs took over the room.

She let go of me, both of us using the space in her room to dance. We drank and chatted, getting tipsy with every other sip of wine. Steph had trouble keeping up the rhythm, so she started twerking and toppled over wanting to touch her toes at the same time.

“Oh my God!” Steph giggled, lying on her back and wiggling her legs into the air. “Where did you learn to dance like that?”

“I’m a salsa instructor.”

She rolled over, pushing herself up onto her elbows. “You’re a what?”

I peeked at her, still moving to the beat. “I teach adult couples how to salsa dance. Or,” I sagged onto the floor next to her, “I did.”

“Why did you quit?”

“Because my boss only promoted me if I’d suck him off first.”

“Are you kidding me?”

“Well, actually, he wanted me to sleep with him. One night, to get me out of his system, he said. So technically, I was kidding.”

“Jesus, Dita.” She looked at me while I downed my drink. “I’m appalled things like that still happen.”

I nodded. “They do. And what’s worse, my female coworkers thought I was stupid not to take the deal.”

“Excuse me?” she asked, seeming to be insulted on my behalf.

“Yeah,” I agreed, currently feeling much stronger in the accompany of Steph than every one of my ex-coworkers combined. “Pass me the booze, will you?”

Steph filled up my glass once more, emptying the bottle. I told her everything. I didn’t want to be afraid of anyone while I’d opened the book of this new chapter in my life.

Cautious, sure. Scared? No, not anymore.

“Marc, my previous boss, was—well, I’ll just say it—was fucking gorgeous. Dimples, light brown hair, hips that took you to salsa paradise and hands that guided you there.”

“But he was a douche, right?” Steph cut in.

“Exchanging a promotion to get in my pants seems like it. So, yes, absolutely.”

She shook her head. “Of course. They gorgeous ones always are.”

“Sure are,” I murmured, thinking about Ares and his permanent scowl, his fingers curling deep inside me where they had no right to be. I closed my eyes to drown myself in the music.

Steph hauled me out of it. “Do you miss it? Dancing?”

“Very much,” I admitted, settling my back against her bed. “Especially being in the zone. It doesn’t matter if you’re hot and out of breath, you just…dance and forget about the world for a while.”

“You make it sound like the dance movies from 80s.”

I giggled. “Those movies were made decades before we were even born.”

“Gay dads, remember? They watch the cute guys sweat on TV, and I just tag along.”

We laughed until a light bulb went off in her head. “Hey! I know something we can do!”

She jumped up and unlocked her phone, putting it on speaker so I could hear the dial tone. The person on the other end of the line didn’t even have the chance to speak when he picked up. “Misha! You know that favor I was talking about?”

He hesitated, “Steph, girl, my debts to you are long cleared.”
