I leaned my head against the back of the seat and closed my eyes. The sooner we got to Vancouver and off the plane, the better. Usually I liked flying, but today I was acutely aware of Hayley being somewhere else on the aircraft, and very likely being mad at me. I hated to think how much pain she might be in right now because I wasn't a better actor. Maybe I should go back a little further and regret sleeping with her in the first place, but I didn't. I didn't regret a single touch, lick or kiss.

Not one, not for a moment. Unless she ended up hating me for it.

It was going to be long flight the rest of the way there.

"So, I have a couple of interviews lined up for tomorrow morning," I said. "I've made a list of topics they can ask about and those they can't. Jude and Melanie are off limits, as is Jett's relationship with Tilly and Cord's with Harper." Strike didn't mind talking about his relationship with Cam, up to a certain point. When he reached that point, he’d say so.

"We can end the interviews if they try to overstep." Which they would. They always did. They liked to see how far they could push the boundaries. Sometimes the guys were amenable, sometimes not.

Roman nodded and sipped his coffee. "You know they're only going to want ask to about Jude."

I closed my laptop and sighed. "I know. It doesn't matter how clear we make it, they'll always push. That's their jobs I guess." I couldn't really blame them for doing it. They'd all be out for a scoop, the juicier the better. But it was my job to make sure they didn't get it unless we wanted them to. I'd spent most of the flight back working on that. And trying not to think too hard about anything else.

"There's already talk about wanting to make a movie out of it," Roman commented.

I snorted a laugh. "It will all die down soon. Especially when they realize we're serious about them not talking about it. They'll move on to something more interesting." Which I hoped wasn't me. I could handle this end of things, but not being under scrutiny. Not for one mistake.

"Okay, what else?" He fixed me with a look and a slightly raised eyebrow.

"That's it," I said lightly. "I sent you the time and location for the interviews, and who the guys will be talking to. Otherwise, I think we can get back to normal. Unless something happened while I was back home?"

"Nothing out of the ordinary," he said. "We got to Vancouver without any more drama or scandals. It's a miracle. And you all made it back without getting into trouble." He was still looking at me with the same expression on his face, like he knew something was up but wasn't sure whether he should ask or not.

"Yeah, amazing isn't it," I said, my gaze dropping to just under his eyes. "We managed to get through a whole flight without anyone having to threaten to turn the plane around or drop us off at Prince Albert airport."

"I think that airport is a bit too small for the aircraft you were traveling on, but I take your point." He sipped his coffee and didn't even look like making fun of the place that unfortunately shared a name with a particular body piercing. The guys in the band would have laughed.

Me, well, I should probably not be thinking about anyone's dick anyway. All that would do was get me into trouble. Especially if it was Axel's.

"There's that look again," Roman said. "Is something bothering you?" He leaned forward and placed his elbows on the table. "You don't have to tell me, you just seem to have something on your mind."

Did I ever?

"It's…" I couldn't really get upset about Axel telling everyone else and then tell Roman. That would be all sorts of hypocritical. On the other hand, if he didn't find out from me, he would probably find out from them. Would he care if he did? He would understand why I didn't tell him. He might not even want to know. If it was him, I wouldn't want to know, but he had a vested interest in the band like I did. Anything that impacted them could impact him too. Not to mention how unfortunate it would be if he got blindsided by the press if somehow found out first. Forewarned is forearmed and all that.

I closed my eyes for a moment. "I made a mistake." I opened them again and glanced around to make sure no one was within hearing distance.

"We all do that from time to time," he said. "Even me."

"Surely not," I said lightly.

He smiled. "I know, right? I'm sure whatever it is can't be that bad."

"You haven't heard what it is yet," I said. "I'm not really sure if I should tell you. It's personal, but it's also business-related."

"I'm not sure if I should be intrigued or worried. That description alone is…" He searched for the words. "Intriguing and worrying at the same time. You didn't kill anyone, did you?"

"Not yet," I replied. "I mean, no, of course not."

He looked at me funny, but smiled. "Yeah, I can't see you doing something like that."

I didn't ask if there was anyone he could see doing that. I didn't want to know the answer to that question.

"No, I just do other dumb things." I massaged my temples with the tips of my fingers. "I might have… Spent the other night with Axel." I winced.
