I can’t believe what I’m hearing, but I don’t say anything yet. I want to know what else he’s going to say.

He continues, “In fact, I couldn’t stop thinking about you the other night on my date. But then, I came here for dinner, and there was all this sexual tension between us. Or am I wrong about that?”

I just shake my head in response because he sure as shit isn’t wrong.

He flashes a smile that I’m pretty sure is melting my panties at this very moment.

He goes on, “I think that had I stayed, we would’ve ended up in bed together. I know I was dying to climb in between those long legs of yours. But I started thinking about the possible consequences of that action, and I got scared.”

I can’t help but interrupt. “What’s changed? Why’d you come back?”

There’s that smile again. “Someone pretty wise told me I was being an idiot. I’ve come to realize that maybe the things that scare us are the things most worth having.”

Oh man, he’s good.

As much as I want to resist his charm, the cute little dimples he gets when he smiles make it really damn difficult.

Oh, who am I kidding? I’m not going to stay mad at him, and I know it.

Giving a playful eye roll, I say, “Alright, alright. I guess you’re forgiven. Now, what’s in the bags?”

He readjusts his baseball cap before leaning forward to grab one of the brown paper sacks.

“To start with, I brought snacks.” He pulls out a couple of bottles of alcohol followed by a small cheesecake and then two bags of my favorite hot and spicy potato chips.

“Hey, I love these!” I exclaim, grabbing one of the bags. “How’d you know?”

He shrugs his broad shoulders. “I remembered you used to eat anything hot back in high school, so I just took a shot in the dark on the brand.”

“Well, good job.” I point to the other bag. “More snacks?”

“Nope.” He starts pulling out boxes. “Board games.”

“Board games?”

“Yep. I know you’ve been going crazy in this house, so I figured we could play some games to keep us amused.”

“Us?”

I swear I see him blush a little bit. “Well, yeah…if you’ll let me hang out with you.”

I pause for just a moment as if thinking. “Alright, but I have to warn you that I’m pretty competitive when it comes to any type of game.”

He grins. “I think I can handle it.”

“Prepare to get your ass beat at Monopoly.”

An hour and a half later, we are immersed in a heated game of Monopoly. I’m sitting on the couch, and Shane is on the floor across the coffee table from me. The game board sits between us with tiny houses and hotels scattered about and a big pile of different-colored money piled in the middle.

“Come on,” Shane mutters as I count the spaces for my dog-shaped piece to move. His baseball cap now sits backward on his head, and his eyes narrow in, watching my piece narrowly miss his spaces.

“Damn,” he whispers.

“Rookie mistake,” I say. “Park Place and Boardwalk are a complete waste of time and money.”

“They’re the most expensive things on the board!” He exclaims, throwing his hands in the air.
