Home.

That word hits me like a ton of bricks because although technically Grady is my home, I never really imagined myself going back there to live full time—at least not any time in the near future.

But here I am.

About to head back to Small Town USA to rethink every plan I’ve ever made.

Tears prick my eyes, and I struggle to fight them off. Jessies sees that I’m having a hard time and pulls me in for a hug. The moment I’m wrapped in his arms, my tears start to quietly fall.

He stands there hugging me for what feels like an eternity.

I hear my other brothers walk back in, and Jared says, “Are we about ready? If I spend too much time here, I’m going to smell like a frat boy.”

Jessie says, “Why don’t you guys go ahead and hit the road? We will be right behind.”

They both agree and head back out the door.

When I finally pull back, I realize I’ve soaked the front of Jessie’s shirt. “Shit, Jess. I’m sorry.”

“It’s alright.” He smiles. “I’ve had worse on my shirt.”

“Gross,” I mutter, walking over to grab my wallet.

“Oh, get your mind out of the gutter. I have a daughter, remember?”

As we’re about to leave, I say, “Jess, thanks for coming to get me. I owe the three of you big time.”

“You don’t owe us shit. That’s one of the perks of having big brothers.”

As I shut the door behind us, I see Justin walking down the hallway toward us. And he’s with a woman who I’m assuming is his new piece of ass—judging by the way she’s all over him. I have to admit that she’s pretty especially compared to me right now, who resembles a sea hag.

“Jenna!” Justin exclaims as though I’ve startled him. “I thought you’d be gone by now.”

“Don’t worry. I’m on my way.”

I could be petty and pick a fight with the girl, but I don’t have the energy. Plus, I really don’t give a fuck.

Jessie must feel a little bit petty, though, because he starts talking loud enough for the two of them to hear.

“No, Jenna, I don’t think it’s wrong for you to leave someone for doing sexual things to a dog. I don’t blame you at all.” For dramatic effect, he turns to give Justin a judgmental glare.

I follow suit and see Justin’s new girl looking absolutely mortified.

Leaning toward Jessie, I whisper, “I just found another perk to having big brothers.”

Chapter Five

Shane

Istay at the ranch a little later than usual to help Taylor. With Jonas leaving early, we wanted to make sure everything got done and got done right.

By the time I walk through the door to my house, I’m practically dead on my feet.

Grandpa sits in his chair, watching some old black and white western.

“Hey, buddy. How was work?” He greets with a slight smile. The man has called me ‘buddy’ ever since I can remember. And I’ll never complain about it because I know one day, I won’t get to hear it anymore. Neither of them is in the best of health, so I don’t know how soon that day may come.

“Hey, Gramps,” I say, stopping just inside the door to take off my boots.
