Andi

“What do you want to watch, beautiful?” Jonas asks, using the remote to flip through Netflix.

“Nothing sappy. We have already seen that my emotions are running on high today. We don’t need the floodgates again.”

He dramatically puts his hand on his chest like he’s been wounded. “Oh no, no sappy girly movie? Whatever will we watch?”

I playfully smack his chest. “Oh, hush. Pick something scary.”

“You want to watch a scary movie?”

I nod.

He hands me the remote. “Go ahead and pick one, and I’ll go make us some popcorn.”

I smile and happily take the remote to begin searching. I find a slasher movie that I haven’t seen before. Pretty sure it’s like the fifth one in the series.

The movie's first scene is a couple of kids who are in high school getting down and dirty.

“Dumbasses.”

“Who’s a dumbass?” Jonas asks from the kitchen.

“These dumb teenagers. Don’t they know that in a scary movie, you never have sex? That’s a sure-fire way to get yourself killed, kid.”

He walks back into the room holding popcorn and some candy to go with it.

“But I mean, do theyknowthey’re in a scary movie? That poor kid is just trying to get his dick wet. He doesn’t know a mad man is lurking right outside,” he says. “Of course, you’re right. Teenage boys are dumb, and he still probably would have wanted to get his dick wet. Madman or not.”

“Exactly.” I laugh.

We start to watch the movie, and I won’t lie, it’s a little lame. But it’s fun laughing through the whole thing with Jonas.

I can’t help but think this is how a relationship should be. I’m sure relationships can be a lot of things, but one thing they should always be is fun. And I don’t think I’ve ever had as much fun with anyone as I have with Jonas. Now that I have stopped fighting it so hard, I realize how easy it is. And I can’t believe I was ever fighting it to begin with.

When we are both quiet for a few minutes, I say, “Hey, I’m sorry about earlier. You were so excited to go fishing, and then, I let my hormones get the best of me and acted like a crazy person.”

My feet are in his lap, and he begins rubbing them. “You don’t have to be sorry, Andi. You have such a big heart that you didn’t want me to kill a fish. Why would I be upset by that?”

“Because it’s something you like doing so much, and I really wanted to be a part of it.”

“Baby, we don’t have to do every single thing in our lives together. It’s okay not to like everything that the other one does. You like reading those romance books, and I mean, reading isn’t exactly my cup of tea. I’m not going to fault you, though if you say you want me to leave you alone for a few hours so that you can read,” he says.

Have I mentioned how perfect he is?

My phone dings with a text, and I figure it’s Cheryl checking in. But it’s not. It’s Tracy.

Tracy: Hey, Andi! Just seeing what you were up to tomorrow. The shop is closed to get a fresh coat of paint…to liven it up a little. Maybe you want to get lunch?

I giggle to myself, wondering how much more her shop can be ‘livened up.’ It already has purple walls.

“Hey, do we have anything going on tomorrow?” I ask Jonas.

Still looking at the TV, he answers, “I don’t think so. Why?”

“Tracy wants to have lunch. Do you care if I go?”

Now, he takes the remote and pauses the TV before turning to look at me. “Baby, you don’t have to ask my permission to have lunch with your friend. That’s not what this is. If I have something planned, I’ll run it by you. Otherwise, don’t feel like you need to ask me. Besides, I think it’s good that you are getting to know some people in town. You’re going to need someone to complain about me to when I make you mad.” He winks. “This a perfect example of us being able to do stuff apart. You have lunch with your friend, and I’ll go back fishing.”
