“Tell me why I should go with you guys over just buying my cattle at auction.”

I look down at all of the spreadsheets in front of me.

“Bill, we’ve already gone over this. I’ve explained to you how it’s certainly cost-effective for you to go this route. Plus, you’ll be getting a far better quality of cattle…”

He cuts me off. “Yeah, yeah, we’ve gone over the numbers. But I want you to tell me what makes Mitchell Ranch so unique.

I stop a moment to think about his question, and I answer with just two words.

“Jonas Mitchell.”

“Why?” He asks.

“Jonas Mitchell is the most hard-working man you will ever meet. He pours everything he has into the ranch, and that translates into the quality of cattle. Hell, he hired me to run the office so that he could spend one hundred percent of his time worrying about the cattle. He didn’t come today because he is personally tending to two calves who need a little extra attention. To him, it’s not all about the dollar signs. Every cent of profit gets poured back into the business. If you aren’t interested in this deal, fine. But I promise you that you will never find a man who cares as much as Jonas Mitchell.”

I begin to pack up all of my papers and get ready to leave. Clearly, all this guy cares about is my tits, and he’s not taking me seriously.

But when I get up to leave, he stops me.

“Okay, let’s hash out the deal,” he says.

“Really?”

“Don’t sound so surprised. You presented quite the pitch for your boss. He’s happy to you have you in his corner.” This time, he speaks, looking at my eyes instead of my boobs.

My phone vibrates in my hand, and I see that it’s Cheryl.

But I’ll call her back.

I have a deal to finalize.

*************************************************************

On my way back to the ranch, I’m so giddy I can barely contain myself. I consider texting Jonas to tell him the good news, but I decide to surprise him tonight. We will have a reason to celebrate.

I set my phone in the center console of the SUV when the light turns green. The screen comes on as I set it down, and the missed call from Cheryl notification is still on the lock screen.

I feel bad that I haven’t been answering. She’s been trying to call the past few days, but I always seem to be doing something else when the phone rings.

Clicking the Bluetooth button on my steering wheel, I give the command to call Cheryl.

It rings three times before she answers.

“Hey, Andi.” Her voice is different than usual, but I can’t explain how.

“Hey, Cheryl. Sorry, the past few days have been insane. Jonas took me out of town for my birthday,” I say.

“That sounds like fun. Where did you go? No, don’t touch that.” The last comment clearly isn’t meant for me.

“What?” I ask.

“Nothing, sweetie. Go on.” She’s still distracted, though.

It’s not until I hear a tiny voice in the background that I start to understand.

“Grandma, can you help me open this?” The small voice says.

“Grandma?” I ask.
