“We are.” Zach explained Cassidy’s situation. “Has anyone been in here today asking about Cassidy or maybe even me?”

He shook his head. “No one asked me, but that doesn’t mean this person wasn’t here at lunch and spoke with one of the waitresses.”

Shit.

“Keep an eye out for any strangers asking questions,” Zach said. “If anyone comes in, give me or Dad a call.”

“Will do.”

Even if Will had said he’d seen the guy, Zach wouldn’t know where to find him. He turned to Mike and Mason. “Thoughts?”

“We need to find Cassidy,” Mike said. “I know that sounds obvious, but if we leave now, we might be able to make it to Thomas Ridge before her.”

“Assuming she’s headed there,” Zach said. "Unfortunately, I have no other ideas."

“Where else would she go?” Mason asked. “Her best friend, Mindy, is there as are her parents.”

“To me, it’s a reasonnotto go there,” Zach shot back.

“Are you thinking that Cassidy hitchhiked a ride with the next car leaving town, not caring about the destination?” Mason asked.

“Maybe.”

“Cassidy would do something like that, except for one thing: What will she do for money?” Mike asked. “She couldn’t afford to stay at a hotel—even a youth hostel—for more than a few days. Eventually, she’ll need money for food. I think she’s smarter than that.”

“If you were Cassidy with a group of people after you, what would you do? Besides keep running?” Zach asked.

Mike looked over at Mason and then back at Zach. “I’d go to Thomas Ridge, pick up more supplies and maybe more money, and hide out at a friend’s place—though not Mindy’s or a relative’s place.”

“That sounds logical, but if that’s Cassidy’s plan, I bet she won’t stay in Thomas Ridge for long.”

“If we’re going to beat her there, we should pack and head out tonight, after making certain she's not taking the ten o'clock bus,” Mason said.

“You want to come with us?” That would be great if he did. Three wolves were always better than two.

“Absolutely. You need my research and sleuthing skills.”

“Let’s go.”

CHAPTERSEVENTEEN

“The sun’s not even up, so how about we head to a local park and sleep in the car,” Mason said as they rolled into the town of Thomas Ridge, Wyoming.

The trip from Wildwood, Montana took a little longer than anticipated mostly due to the reduced visibility from the storm that thankfully had abated.

“That sounds good to me,” Zach said. “I plan on shifting since it will be a lot more comfortable.”

“I prefer the good old out of doors,” Mike chimed in. “I will alert you two sleepyheads should any other shifters show up.”

“Do you think we were followed?” Zach had been careful to check his rear view mirror often. Most of the time, they were the only ones on the road. Because they didn't want anyone to know they were in town, they decided not to rent a hotel room in Thomas Ridge.

“Probably not, but I wouldn’t have thought the Kitchener Clan would have found Cassidy either.”

“I’m sure we’ll be fine. Have fun sleeping under the stars, not that there are any tonight. It’ll be light in a few hours,” Mason said.

“I know.” Mike slipped out and disappeared into the woods. Hopefully, he didn’t trek too far from the parking lot.
