“Pink?” the voice on the other end questions. I pull the phone away from my ear and note it’s a private number.

“Now is not the time.” A hiccup leaves me, and I struggle to hold back the tears.

“Are you crying?” Jake’s voice floats through the phone.

“Yes, I’m currently packing my stuff and getting ‘only my things’ out as requested by my soon-to-be ex-husband. I have to go. I need to work out what I’m going to do.” I hang up before he can say another word. I should have asked why he was calling, but the last thing on my mind is what Jake wants.

I have half the closet packed and ready to go when my doorbell rings. While I head downstairs, I make sure to wipe away my tears before I pull the door open.

A man is standing there, dressed in a mover’s outfit.

“Oriana?” he asks.

“Yes, that’s me,” I answer.

“Perfect. Where should we start?” He comes right in, and I look at him, confused.

“Start?”

“Yes, moving your things. We received an urgent request.”

“From whom?”

He checks his paperwork before he answers, “Jake.”
