He swallowed hard. "I think your father is capable of anything. And anything that threatens him in any way is in danger. I don't want that to be you. Like I said, I will defend you with my life, but I need you to be careful with him, okay?"

I nodded. "So, are you going to tell me what the hell you were doing in the closet?"

He held up his phone then. "I saw you on the surveillance feed, going upstairs. When I didn't find you, I took a guess. I didn't expect to actually find you in there."

I cursed. "Fuck. There's a surveillance feed for the whole house?"

He nodded. "Everyone in security has access to it."

I ran my hands through my hair. "Oh my God, he's going to see. He's going to see. Oh my God."

The bile started to rise again, and this time it was from sheer fear of what my father was going to do to me.

Westin said, “Don’t worry. I already wiped it. He won't know you were in there today. Unless he goes looking at that safe and notices the box. Did you put it back exactly where you found it?"

I nodded. "Yeah. I hope so."

"Yeah? Or do you hope so?"

"I don't know. I think so."

He nodded. "We're not going back in there to check. So right now, let's just hope that you did. Can I ask a question?"

"What?"

"Now that you have this information, what are you going to do with it?"

I lifted my chin. "I'm going to find my sister."

"Anything else you plan to do?"

I knew he wanted to help. I knew he wanted to keep me safe. But I couldn't tell him. All I managed was, "I'm going to make him pay for every single day he kept me away from her. I'm going to make him pay."

"I'm almost afraid to ask what you're planning."

"I haven't solidified it yet. The moment I do, you'll be the first to know."

He released me then, and I missed the warmth of his grasp.

"Westin?"

His voice was husky. "Yeah, Nissa?"

"Thank you for saving me."

"I keep telling you, Nissa. I'm here for you. It doesn't matter who's employing me. You are entirely my main focus."

My stomach flip-flopped, and I knew I couldn't trust those feelings. As beautiful as he was, that seemed like a recipe for disaster. I said good night and headed back to my bedroom. I could feel his gaze on me. Almost like he knew I was holding something back.

When I reached my room, I pulled my phone out of my pocket along with the letters. The letters I placed on the nightstand, then I pulled up the number I’d put in the other day on my phone and texted it.

We need to meet. You were right about my father. What do you want from me?

I may have told Westin I wasn't exactly sure of what I wanted to do, and I wasn't, really. I didn't have a definite plan yet. All I knew was that I wanted my father to pay.
