I gave her a squeeze back. "I do know you're here for me. Sometimes I just need time on my own to think about stuff. Anyway, how about tomorrow we do dinner? Your place. Right after I get out of class."

"Perfect. Lads or no lads?"

"What do you mean, lads or no lads? I mean, it's Adam's flat. He can be there."

Jamila rolled her eyes. "Oh, for the love of Christ, are you bringing Westin?"

I frowned. "He's my bodyguard. There's no getting around it."

"Isn't he more than that?"

I stuttered. “What are you talking about?”

She rolled her eyes. “Oh come on, I can see it. The tension. And the boy is cute. There's a reason bodyguards are a thing. You watched that Netflix show just like the rest of the world. Hot protectors. He's so sexy. No reason he can't be there as your date.”

I open my mouth to say something. Anything. But I couldn't really get into it. There was so much she didn't know. There was so much I hadn't told anyone. “It's complicated.”

“You are about to complicate yourself out of a really good shag.”

“Jamila!”

“What? I'm just saying.”

“Oh my God, it's a long, complicated story that is going to require many drinks.”

“During these many drinks, are you going to tell me that you shagged him last night?”

I stopped in the middle of the pavement. “What?”

“Oh come on, you have that guilty face on. You have the I shagged my bodyguard last night face on.”

"Fine. I threw myself at him last night, basically. And while I did get a very satisfying orgasm out of it, he didn't go any further. Someone who's into me would have totally gone all the way."

Jamila rolled her eyes. "He made a move. That’s all that matters. He was probably just being respectful. Besides, dry humping is hot."

I flushed. "Okay, dry humping was hot, but that’s not the point. What I’m trying to say is, I was the one who initiated what happened. Me, being the idiot that I am.”

"I honestly think that's commendable. But we shall dissect more tomorrow. We'll get a guy's perspective."

"Oh my God, please don't tell Adam."

"What? We live together. What I know, he knows. Sorry, love."

"I don't need Adam knowing that I dry-humped my bodyguard."

"Trust me, he'll get it. And he'll give a good guy's perspective. I promise."

"Oh, for the love of God, I'll see you later."

She pecked me on the cheek and then jogged across the street to catch a bus, which came around the corner just in time. I waved her off just as she climbed on and flashed her Oyster card at the driver.

After seeing her off, I proceeded to go toward the elevators and up to my flat. I didn't know what I was going to find there. Westin was right behind me, silently offering me support.

My stomach was twisting and roiling as I did the death march to my door and inserted the key. But when I turned the lock, I was met with a tantalizing aroma of garlic and herbs. "What the—” Had someone else broken in to cook?

From behind me, Westin said, “I had food delivered. I figured we could have lunch here and remind you that this is still your home.”

I rapidly blinked the tears out of my eyes. He was making it hard to keep him shut out.
