"You smell like danger, love," he whispered against my skin, and it sent goosebumps trailing down my spine.

Deciding to take my power back, I shifted in his arms, turning toward him. A gasp burst from my lips as I staggeredback. My flirty response caught in my throat as I stared into eyes so red they glowed, framed by long eyelashes, and blue skin, small curled horns poked from his multi-colored hair, threaded with bursts of platinum white. His lips were a deep shade of midnight and, as he pressed them together, his cheeks looked hollow.

Demon.

It was the one from the booth. I hadn't ever been this close to a demon without killing them before. He cocked an eyebrow at me as a smirk pulled at his mouth. His eyes traveled down my front, devouring me with the heat flowing from his gaze. My body didn't care that he was a demon, and I should kill him, not press my body against him.

He blinked slowly as he met my stare again. "I'm Bellamy," he said.

Did he think I was a random human that he could prey on? I cocked my head to the side and watched him. There were a couple of ways I could play this. Reject him, which was what I should do. I wasn't one of those stupid girls that go into dark alleys with demons. Or I could play along and kill him when he makes his move.

"Samantha," Lex made my decision for me as he came up behind me. His hand landed on my lower back as he led me away from the demon. I peeked one last look at the hottest monster I had ever met, I shouldn’t be attracted to him. He watched me walk away with a sinister glow to his eyes, it sent a thrill of the forbidden down my spine.

He pulled me into a VIP room and shut the door, blocking out the loud music. "What was that, Lex?"

"No hunting in the club," he replied, and I narrowed my eyes on him. It was more than that. Normally, he just shouted at me over the music, and I was sure it was all for show.

"I wasn't," I said, as I crossed my arms.

"You don't want to mess with him. He is top level. Killing him would bring a whole new level of shit down on you," Lex said, tugging his hand through his hair.

"Who said anything about killing? Did you see him? He might be a demon, but damn, was he hot."

Lex rolled his eyes and looked away. "Sam, I know you. You would have played his game and then left the club with him. Then you would have attempted to kill him."

"Attempted," I scoffed. If that's what I did, I wouldn't have only attempted to do it.

"He is one of the princes of demons," Lex said. My gaze shot to him before I looked at the closed door. He was my mark. It made me want to hurry back out of the room and find him again.

"Lex, he is my mission. He is causing chaos here, he can't stay."

"You can't kill him unless you want a war with the Underworld. His dad, the King of Demons, is close with Hades and my mom."

"You can help me trap him. All we need to do is trap him. I was told not to kill him," I said. I stepped close to him and ran my hands over his shirt, tugging it up with my action. The excitement that my mission could be so easy coursed through me. He stopped me by placing his hand over mine, shattering my hope.

"Sam, no hunting in my club. If you want to go after him, you need to find him outside. I'm not helping you. My mom would kill me herself, besides she sent one of her minions to tell me to stay away from you already."

"Me?" I pressed my hand to my chest as I stepped back. That hurt more than I expected it to. His mom didn't even know me. Not that we would have an actual relationship where I'd ever meet the goddess Nyx, but to have the goddess of darkness against me when I hunted in the dark, that stung. "Whatever, fine, I won't hunt him here. But if I find him outside these walls, all bets are off."

I backed away as he tried to reach for me. "Sam," he said with a sigh. "You know I don't care what she says. If I did, I wouldn't own this bar, and I wouldn't have slept with you last night."

"No, it's fine. I'll keep my distance."

I shook my head and yanked the door open. My heart hurt, and it shouldn't. This shouldn't feel like a break-up because it wasn't, yet my whole body hurt with the rejection I felt. I pushed through the partiers. I didn't know when I lost my drink, but I really wanted it right now. Instead, I headed toward the exit, I had hunting to do. The telltale sting of my eyes had nothing to do with my quick escape.

I stalked down the streets looking for another demon. They usually were pretty easy to find. Especially after midnight when the girls on the college campus had drank a little too much and were walking back to their dorms. I pulled out my dagger and flipped it between my fingers as I walked.

I wasn't in the mood for killing demons tonight, and if I could, I would go back to Lex and ask him to fuck me. Even knowing he just rejected me didn't make me want him less; hell, it probably made me want him more. An almost frantic energy coursed through me, and I needed to release it.

My second sweep of the campus came up empty, and I shoved the dagger back into the holder. Maybe I should call it a night and visit with b.o.b., my battery operated boyfriend, the only steady thing I had in my life. A flash of white, multi-colored hair caught my attention across the street, and my eyes landed on the demon prince from the Fantasia. He was leading a freshman around a corner into the darkness.

Fuck my life.

I sprinted across the street, praying to whatever God that listened that I'd be in time to stop him. Skidding into thealleyway, I came to an abrupt stop. The girl was moaning, and not in pain, if the look on her face was any sign. She tangled her fingers into his hair, grasping his curled horns as he gave her probably the best orgasm she ever had. He devoured her completely differently than demons normally did.

Even my core throbbed as I watched him. After her cries died down, he stood back up and reached for his pants. I knew what was coming next, yet I didn't look away or stop it. I was even fucking aroused by it. The moisture pooled between my legs, and I hated myself for the response. I hadn't been lying when I told Lex he was the hottest demon I had ever seen.

As he went to undo his leather pants, the girl's gaze landed on me, and she let out a blood-curdling scream, as if I was the monster in the dark. I held up my hands and backed away as Bellamy swung his blood-red eyes in my direction. He cocked his head at me as a grin spread across his face. He forgot the girl against the wall as he gave me his full attention.
