"What do you mean? You were attacked last night?" Ty turned on us. A mixture of anger and concern laced his tone.

"I almost died last night. If it wasn't for the Demon Prince I am supposed to capture, I would be dead." She leaned against me harder, as if she could disappear into my side.

"Why didn't you tell me about this already?" he sounded hurt as it sunk in.

She bit down on her lips and didn't answer him.

"She was fine. Alastor saved her life, fire department and EMS was called. I checked her out myself."

"We are going to need to back up a few steps in this fucking story," Ty barked.

"It doesn't matter right now. What matters is finding Mom," Samantha replied, her back straightening as her determination to save the day took over.

"You can't go alone," I said. I held her tighter when she attempted to pull away to tell me how wrong I was. "I'm serious. You're the one that loves those horror movies. You know, the girl that goes alone always dies."

"I'm not a damsel in distress," she grumbled.

"You are also not too stupid to live," I said, quoting the phrase she loved to use when she watched the girls in the horror movies.

"Fine, I'll see if Lex and Alastor can help." As her lips turned down into a sulk, I knew my words had hit home.

"I'm coming too," Ty spoke up.

"Ty—" Samantha shook her head.

"She is my mom too," he cut her off.

"Your brother isn't useless. He has trained too," their father said, finally breaking his silence. "What of the demon that saved you, would he help?"

Samantha coughed in shock. "You want me to ask him to help us find Mom?"

"Raiden said he saved you. Maybe he would help."

"Dad, he is ademon,"Samantha replied. She finally pulled away from me and dropped to the couch next to her father. She reached for his hand and caught his eyes before she said, "He is an incubus. Having him help could backfire. I'm not immune."

We could all tell by the way the last three words came out whispered that they were hard for her to admit, but it was good to know what your personal weaknesses are. Even if I didn't think there would be a problem with everyone around. She wasn't going to exactly fuck him against a tree with Tyler there.

"You should consider it," her father insisted. "He has stepped in for you and protected you against his own. Maybe I’ve beenwrong." He focused his attention on me, and I knew he was saying sorry for how he had acted after he found out I was a dragon shifter. I gave a small nod in acceptance. We didn’t need any other words between us, it was all water under the bridge now, and we needed to save their mom.

Tyler snorted and tugged his fingers through his hair as he dropped into the old worn armchair. "Dad, we can't trust a 'what if' with Mom's life."

"The world isn't black and white. The training you both have had may make you believe it to be so, but it's wrong." His wise gaze drifted to me, and I knew what he was thinking. I gave a small shake of my head. Now was not the time to blow up my world. It would be more of a distraction for all of us, well not Ty, but me and Sam.

I leaned against the back of the couch, my hand brushed Samantha's shoulder, and she leaned into my touch. I didn't think I would ever get used to the pure acceptance.

"I will not test your theory when Mom would be the collateral if it was wrong," Samantha said. "I'm going to go call the guys."

When we could hear her on the phone with one of them, father and son looked my way, the same expressions on both of their faces. "I haven't told her, I was telling my secret today. Then all of this." I waved my hand around the room. "If I tell her now, all it will do is distract her."

"Son, she will accept you. She is more like her mother than her old man, she’ll welcome you with open arms. Release your fear and come clean," their father said.

"Come clean?" Samantha asked as she entered the room, her phone still in hand. "Who needs to come clean?"

"I ate the last of the Oreos," Tyler burst out ,and she threw him a ‘who gives a fuck’ look. "Sorry, if we die, I thought you should know." As she turned away from him, he shot a glare at me over her shoulder. I knew he felt like I should have told her along time ago, but I didn't ask him to cover for me right then, he did that all on his own.

"It is all set. Lex and Alastor are meeting us at the edge of the woods, near the park."
