Nathan

Julia, her name was soothing to say as it rolled off my tongue. Her large green doe eyes had a classic glamor to them which I had never seen before. I’d been content on my own, but until a few minutes ago I’d never realized the potential, the beautiful possibility of someone like her. I was helpless, utterly drawn to her, unaware of her magnetic charm.

When she said out loud in a slurred yet unknowingly manner what her desire was, I knew we had shared the same lustful intention. She felt perfect in my arms. Warm and tiny, lost in the grip of my big hands.

Instantly, I was both intrigued and confused as she hopped off, running away from me. She’s odd, but I liked that. It was cute. But my instincts failed me the moment she ran. They told me to stay away, let her go, she didn’t belong to me.

Fuck.

I couldn’t let her leave, not after that electrifying moment between us. The bar witnessed perfection before their very eyes, and I’d be damned if I’d let her slip through my fingers.

So raw. So vulnerable. In an intimate moment of strangeness that felt familiar, we were on the same electrical current. I wanted more than just a bar kiss. I wanted the rest. I was too stubborn to not know why, to not get an answer. I could still feel her on my lips, the fading pressure that was once there. I knew I needed to go after her.

I followed her as she pulled her friend from Willie, leaving him in despair, along with a stiff rod in his pants. I’d give him shit for that later.

I could only focus on Julia. I could see her, stopped in her tracks, blocked by a stranger at the entrance of the bar. I should just walk away, yet there I was, pulled into her presence.

“Robbie…” Julia’s voice hitched as she stared at the stranger in the doorway with disbelief. I may have just met her a couple hours ago, but god damn it if I would leave her alone right now. Something felt off about this guy, and I wasn’t about to abandon her.

“Everything ok here?” He asked sternly as his arm reached out to grab Julia’s hand, pulling her aggressively to his side like a doll.

“Who the hell are you?” My body dashed in front of Julia, and I couldn’t help but reach my hand out protectively to remove his grip. He looked confused as he slapped my hand away.

This so-called Robbie shifted his weight closer toward me, his cocky attitude following close behind. He didn’t miss a beat as he intently stared at me. I wouldn’t back down so easily. He planted his hand firmly on Julia’s shoulder, but she dropped it in an uncomfortable manner. “The name’s Robbie. I’m her fiancé… as I’m sure she has mentioned.” He smirked, seemingly examining Julia’s shocked expression.

Fiancé? Fuck, I wasn’t expecting that. The girl whom I had a magnetic connection with mere minutes ago was engaged to some blonde asshole who clearly didn’t have any manners. If I could bash the grin off his smug face, I would. I glanced at Julia who was frozen beside him, the color in her cheeks that was red moments ago now drained from her soft porcelain skin. As if nothing happened, she introduced everyone.

“Robbie, I, uh, wasn’t expecting you. Eve and I were meeting up with our friends.” Julia nodded, her hand glazed over all three of us. Willie meandered over and placed his arms over Eve, kissing her cheek from behind. A confused grin spread on Willie’s face, as he arched a frozen brow. His expression was confirmation of how odd this felt. I didn’t feel so alone in my what the fuck situation here.

Instead of jumping to conclusions, I decided to stay mute to see how things would unfold. I was notorious for punching first, then asking questions later, which had landed me in hot water multiple times in my life. More than I’d care to remember.

“This is Nathan,” she locked her gaze briefly with me, her eyes were wide and panicked. “And this is Eve obviously, and her friend…”

“Willie,” he reached his hand out to greet Robbie. I was almost positive if Willie had seen what I had, he’d fuck this guy up alongside me. My eyes narrowed in his direction, hoping he’d see me, but he kept his gaze on Robbie who looked bewilderedly in Eve’s direction. For having a fiancé, he sure seemed much more interested in Eve with his gawking eyes.

“Guys,” Julia hitched and took a deep breath. “This is my fiancé, Robbie.” She squeaked out, seemingly as confused as my buddy and me. She waved her arm over the group huddled in front of her. Robbie’s eyes fixated on Eve first, then wandered over toward me.

I glanced at Julia once more. Her face became pale as she turned to leave, but instead she heaved her entire Blue Moon collection.

“God damn it. How much did you drink? I just bought these shoes at Barney’s.” Robbie shouted, disgusted, not bothering to help her. I knew it. I hated this guy.

“I’m so, so, sorry Robbie. I didn’t mean to embarrass you.” Julia said weakly, swiping at the corners of her lips.

I stepped to her side; my rage had to take a back seat, so I could help pull her hair back. I waved staff over to clean.

This idiot had the guts to shove me away. “Don’t touch what’s not yours… Neil.” I inhaled deeply to avoid the fact that he messed up my name, but most importantly because Julia wasn’t well and didn’t need this shit.

I stood up, puffing my chest, squaring off with this moron who was shorter than me, even if it was by only a couple inches.

Willie was ready to jump in at any given second. Holding back wasn’t my strongest suit, but in this case, my body regressed. Now wasn’t the right time. This could scare Julia off, and it wasn’t my intention to make her night any worse.

Intimidation set in though for poor little rich boy Robbie. He pulled Julia back up, and they scurried out of the bar leaving Willie, Eve, and me indoors. Speechless, we stood studying one another attempting to piece together what happened. Eve quickly apologized, turning toward the bartender to ask for a marker.

“Here, Nathan.” She yanked my arm toward her. “I know she needs you now more than ever.” Her voice wavered, and I believed every word of it. She wrote Julia’s number on my arm as if we were back in middle school. I wasn’t sure what to make of this, but I knew I wanted more; to see her again.

I’d never steal another man’s woman, but with how pathetic that guy was, I thought I could make an exception.
