I glared at him with shifted eyes. He’s been here over a year and hasn’t talked to any girls? I ignored his question.

“Last summer, and I’m the first girl you’ve talked to? I don’t know whether to believe you or be amazed at the line you’re feeding me.” I squinted at him curiously from my short height. I started to feel more brazen with my statements with the amount of beer running through my blood stream at this point.

“I’ll take amazed as a compliment. In actuality, I haven’t met any or seen anyone worth getting to know.”

Worth? Shit, what did that make me? Either a sucker or a needle in the haystack. I turned my body to face him head on, and the gleam he once had in his eyes now seemed a bit weary or distant. “I should feel so lucky.” I stated sarcastically. I sipped the rest of my beer; it was only foam left. Nathan nodded as he dunked back his soda water.

“Maybe, but I’d like to think I’m the lucky one between the two of us.” His alluring voice went in one ear and lingered around my mush brain.

“Did you move to North Carolina recently?” He asked with his soft eyes burning right at my lips.

“Uh, no. I mean, I was born and raised, here, but I live in New York now, right in the middle of the city.” I said proudly.

“I’ve heard it’s pretty great over there, now I’m guessing it’s a fact since that’s where you live. How long have you been there?”

I smiled, even if it may have been a line, he made me skip a heartbeat. “It’s been a few years. I left after high school to attend NYU, still debating whether it was a smart idea to go after my journalism degree, or if I should have gone into medicine.”

“Well, what are you truly passionate about?” His brows narrowed inquisitively.

“Writing,” I blurted quickly. “Guess I know my own answer, but you got it out of me so clearly. The city is pretty expensive, and I’m lucky to…” I hesitated for a moment. Should I have mentioned Robbie? I sighed out. He wasn’t there anyway, and I wanted to keep this magical night between us.

“Lucky to…?” Nathan asked, he still held onto his pool stick, as if it was a way to ground himself, he leaned against it, the shift of his body weight brought him closer to me. I swear if he snapped that stick in half, I’d lose it with a fit of giggles.

“It’s nothing,” I dismissed him with my hand and then dared to circle my fingers around his stomach, feeling every firm mound underneath his shirt. My drunken buzz that had been edging at the tip of my head made my hands courageous in their adventurous ways. I bit my lip as I looked up at him, his eyes were planted firmly on mine, and as I scanned his sculpted face, I noticed a tiny scar on his lip which happened to turn me on even more. Whoever didn’t like men with a scar was insane.

“How’d you get that?” I drunkenly and rudely asked, pointing with a loose finger with my cup still in hand. He brushed his finger over his own lip, as if he had forgotten it was there.

“Ah, you know us boys can be stupid when we’re young. Got it in a fight years ago.”

“Can I?” I reached close to his lip but stopped right before he nodded me on. I bridged the gap between my finger and his lip, brushing the softness of his scar. It might have just been my buzz, but his lips felt so delicate and smooth. I wanted to taste them, to bite them, to rough them up.

Nathan placed his hand over mine as my finger traced the curve of his scarred upper lip. I could have sworn my pounding heart slipped between my legs as we locked eyes. It’s so damn sexy the way he stared into me, not undressing me, but with a deeper desire.

“What’s one thing you could do right now, without consequence?” His raspy voice practically climbed inside my panties as he spoke.

My stomach flipped around, and I shivered because if I could do one thing, it’d be to straddle Nathan and have him kiss me. Would I admit that? Doubtful.

Would Eve? Yes.

My loose lips opened, spilling out a condensed summary of my fantasy, “Kiss me,” I whispered. Nathan’s grin curled into a sexy smirk as he scooped me up immediately. His strong, warm hands held me up, gripping my bare ass. Those perfect soft lips crashed onto mine, mimicking what I craved. He was perfect. His kiss was hard and pressed deeply into me. I puddled into his touch and whimpered against his mouth as our tongues greeted one another hungrily.

My body was high up in the air. His one hand now squeezed my ass, while the other pressed me firmly against his chest. I allowed myself to be pulled in, filling the free space between us.

My fingers ran along his stubbled square jawline while we made out, my arms were wrapped around the nape of his neck. I grabbed at the top of his hair, mussing it with my fingers. We held our kiss for the most perfect moment in this bar’s history. Better yet, in this state’s history.

“You’re absolutely beautiful,” he caressed my cheek when I pulled back to stare deeply into his hazel eyes. “Where have you been hiding?”

Shit, fuck, damn. That was not supposed to happen.

In a flurry of panic that rose from my chest and down to my legs, I squeezed his hands one last time. “I’m so sorry, I can’t, Nathan.” I bucked off him and ran toward where Eve was still enjoying herself with Willie.

“Wait,” I heard Nathan shout out, but I knew if I looked back, I’d be done for, because I’d allow him to claim me. But I wouldn’t let that happen. I couldn’t. I had worked too damn hard to have my whole life collapse.

“Eve,” I shook her shoulders violently, jolting her awake from her sexual high. “I’m sorry, but I can’t do this. We need to go, like now.” My eyes bugged out as I yelled over the loud music. Eve’s man whipped his head around, his hair disheveled from her gripping hands.

“Fuck, Julia.” Eve scowled. Her head sprung forward, utterly annoyed as I dragged her away from the booth. Her blonde curls bounced, and we were almost out of the exit, when my heart dropped into the pit of my stomach. My cheating lips quivered, and Eve took hold of my hand, squeezing it. A familiar face.

Shit, this cannot be happening…
