“Do you have sensors or something?” I blurted.

Clark leaned against the door and gave me a lazy smile. It was disarming and totally unfair. His hair looked damp from a shower, and he wore a light gray shirt with faded jeans and white sneakers. It wasn’t fair that he looked so good with so little effort.

“You strike me as the punctual type.”

I glared at him.

“You were waiting for me,” I gloated because I had spent five minutes in the car hyping myself up.

And then my smile fell a bit because that meant he had been spying on me this whole time, watching me talk to myself in the car.

“If I could have brought you home with me the other night, I would have,” he admitted, and my stomach dipped.

“I brought wine,” I told him softly as I handed him the bottle.

I thought he was reaching for it, but he instead wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me in. It reminded me of when I was dancing with him. He made me feel small and protected, even though there was nothing that I needed protecting from this time.

“It’s a lovely house,” I told him as we made our way to the kitchen.

It was modern with a bachelor feel, but still had enough picture frames and other things to make it feel homey.

“Where’s Lucas?” he asked as he took my hand and led me to a chair.

“He’s with my neighbor. You remember Oscar, right? He and his husband have a daughter Lucas’s age,” I answered as I took the wine glass he offered.

Clarks features softened a bit. “You could have brought him. Not that I am not happy to have you all to myself.”

His statement warmed me, and not only because it made me blush.

“You wouldn’t have minded?”

Clark reached out and stroked my cheek. I was getting the feeling he was a very touchy-feely person. Not that it bothered me. It was nice to feel wanted.

“I know you’re a package deal, Ori, so no, I wouldn’t have minded.”

Swoon. There went new pieces of my heart along with the old ones that had already been stamped by him.

“You are a smooth talker.” I pointed a finger at him, trying to be funny.

“I’m just honest, Ori.”

He shrugged like it was no biggie, but there was an intense look in his eyes, and it made me squirm in my chair. And judging by the way his eyes darkened, he definitely noticed.

“I’ll bring him next time.” It was almost a whisper, and he looked smug about it.

“So, there’s a next time?” That single dimple popped out.

“Depending on if you make tonight a good one.”

His smile got bigger. He bent and kissed my forehead, then whispered in my ear.

“I’ll make itsogood for you.” His voice had dropped to a silky low tone that had my legs rubbing together and made me choke on my wine at the same time.

He chuckled, but walked to the stove so he could tend to the food. “You know, I’m glad you agreed to hold back on Callahan. Given your fiery temper, I was sure I would have a fight on my hands.”

I bit my lip as I watched him cook for me. “You were honest with me.”

It was the truth. If he had not explained it to me as he had, I wasn’t sure I would have relented so quickly.
