He sent me another image, this time, it was a selfie, and he was pouting at the camera, wearing a disappointed frown.

I barely choked down the laugh stuck in my throat. He was such a goofball. But there was something very endearing about that.

The fact, he didn’t take himself too seriously.

“Who’s making you smile?” Harper whispered.

“Connor,” I blurted, almost choking on the lie. “He’s such a goof.”

“The funny ones always have the dirtiest mouths. Ella is a lucky woman.”

I couldn’t work Harper out. She was bold and brash and clearly owned her sexuality. But sometimes, when she looked at me, I saw a shadow lingering in her eyes.

“What?” she asked, sensing me watching her.

“I’m glad we met, Harper,” I said with a smile, even though guilt streaked through me, making me feel a hundred times worse.

But I couldn’t tell her the truth.

She’d hate me.

Besides, there wasn’t anything to tell yet. Not really.

At least, that’s what I kept telling myself.

“Me too, Rory.” She smiled back. “Me too.”

It turned out Harper couldn’t do lunch. She had a study group. But I didn’t tell Noah that.

I still had a lot to think about.

Like the fact my brother and the rest of the team seemed to be everywhere I turned on campus. I managed to avoid Noah for the time being, but my brother was another matter entirely.

“Rory, wait up,” Austin called, waving at me from across the student center.

He said something to the pretty blonde he was with, and the two of them shared a tense word before he left her standing there. She looked suspiciously like Fallon, but she stormed off before I could get a good look at her.

“Girl trouble?” I asked, and he grimaced, dragging a hand down his face.

“Don’t ask.”

“So it’s true, you and Fallon are—”

Surprise crossed his expression. “We are not talking about this.”

“But it’s okay that you brought her home and had loud, dirty sex?”

“You heard us?” The blood drained from his face.

“You weren’t exactly quiet. I thought it was Noah because I assumed my brother would never do something like that to me.”

“Shit, Sis, I’m sorry. I was really fucking drunk, and she was—”

“Yeah, okay.” I lifted my hand, cutting him off. “I don’t need to know the details.”

“Do the guys know?”

“Noah figured it out.”
