“I’m listening.”

“We all go to the party, but after an hour, if you’re not having fun, I’ll bring you home.”

Shit. Why did that sound like it was loaded with promises I had no right to make?

“I don’t need a babysitter, Noah.”

“I know. I’m not trying to baby you. I’m trying to be a good friend. If you don’t like it, we’ll leave. Simple.”

“Why do you care?”

Good question. I swallowed over the lump in my throat. Was it hot in here? Because I felt fucking hot.

“I… uh…”

“C’mon,” Austin yelled up the stairs. “Let’s roll.”

“He’s right,” Aurora rushed out, smoothing down her fake hair as she slipped around me. “We should go.”

“Yeah.” I rubbed the back of my neck, watching her hurry out of the room, with that sunshine-yellow dress—her perfect ass in that dress—taunting me.

Fuck.

I was in serious fucking trouble.

I’d been dead set on persuading Aurora to come with us to the party, but maybe she was right.

Maybe it was a bad idea.

Only not for the reasons she thought.

The party was already in full swing by the time we got there.

Ward greeted us at the door with Jell-O shots. Austin, the greedy fucker, took two; and a third when Aurora declined.

“Goldy, you’re killing me here,” Connor drawled, slinging his arm around her shoulder.

A streak of jealousy went through me. But I shoved it down. Aurora isn’t yours, asshole. She’ll never be yours. Besides, Connor was good people. He wasn’t hitting on her. He was being friendly. Brotherly.

He was being everything I was supposed to be.

But nothing about my thoughts and Aurora in that little yellow dress were brotherly.

I was so fucking screwed.

Thankfully, the stupid fucking bear onesie the guys had insisted I wear had enough room in the crotch department to disguise the fact I’d been walking around at half-mast ever since I’d barged into her room.

“I’ll stick to water, thanks.” She shot him a sardonic smile and slipped past Ward.

“She’s a tough little thing, huh?” he said, glancing after her.

“Watch it, Cutler, that’s my sister you’re talking about.”

He chuckled. “You just let her loose in a frat house full of drunken hockey players. I’d say she’s fair game.”

“Watch it,” I snapped, anger rippling through me like an electric current.

“Holden’s right,” Connor nudged himself between us, flashing me a ‘stand the fuck down’ smile. “Aurora is as good as family to the team. That makes her off-limits.”
