The word ricocheted through me.

His message couldn’t be any more obvious. I needed a strong fucking drink and a distraction or two.

Because Aurora Hart was bad news.

And a problem I didn’t need.

“I’m going to get a drink,” I said to no one in particular, ducking into the house.

But Connor caught up with me. “We need to talk.”

“No, we don’t.”

“Holden, man, wait”—he grabbed my arm—“you like her, don’t you?”

“Who?”

“Come on, this is me you’re talking to. I can see it a mile away.”

“Just because you’ve got a girl doesn’t make you some kind of attraction-o-meter.”

He grinned, his eyes creasing with laughter. “You like her.”

“You need to stop with that shit. She’s Austin’s sister. Our housemate. I would never—”

“Never?” His brow arched.

“Never,” I said emphatically.

“Good man. Because I don’t want to spend my senior year in the middle of you and Austin. I love you, Holden, but I was Austin’s friend first.” He winked.

“Oh, it’s like that, huh?” I said, and he threw his head back, roaring with laughter.

When he was done, he settled his hard gaze back on mine and smirked. “It’s exactly like that.”

“Where is Austin?” I asked as we made our way into the big open-plan kitchen. Aurora had already found the girls, tucking herself away in the corner of the room.

“She has no idea how hot she looks, does she?” Connor said.

“Don’t let Ella hear you say that.”

“We have something called trust, asshole. Ella knows she holds my balls in the palm of her hand, and I quite happen to like them there.”

“Nice visual… that I never need to imagine.”

“Drink?”

I nodded. “Make mine a double.” I eyed the bottles of hard liquor.

He glanced at me and then across the room at Aurora and back again, shaking his head a little. “Jesus, you are so fucking screwed.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Gripping my shoulder, he squeezed. “Keep telling yourself that enough, and one day, it might come true.”

“What might come true?” Austin appeared out of nowhere, making my heart crash against my chest.

“Noah’s dream of a three-way with Sam and Fallon.”
