“So,” she went on. “What were you talking about before I walked in?”

“Oh, nothing of interest. Just Noah’s latest conquest.”

“Oh.” She stiffened, a ripple of hostility rolling off her.

“He’s keeping his cards close to his chest, so I’m guessing it’s either Sam or one of Ella’s friends.”

“Actually,” I said, clearing my throat, “it wasn’t.”

“No? Well, shit, that’s twenty dollars out of my pocket, then. I had a bet with Connor that you’d end up back at Sam’s.”

“Trust me, it wasn’t for her lack of trying,” I murmured, and Aurora caught my eye, narrowing hers slightly.

“What about you? Did you make it home?” I flipped the tables on him.

Austin got up and took his bowl to the sink. “I never kiss and tell, Holden. You should know that by now.” He chuckled.

“Okay, if you two are quite done,” Aurora said, “I’m going to do some yoga in the yard.”

“Enjoy. I’m going to grab a shower, then meet some of the guys at The Penalty Box. Holden, you in?”

“Uh, yeah.” I tore my eyes off Aurora’s legs and glanced up at him. “I’ll be there.”

“See you down here in a bit then.” Austin left the kitchen, and I let out a small breath.

“Are you trying to kill me, shortcake?”

“Sorry, am I supposed to know what you’re talking about?”

“Your outfit.” My eyes dropped to her ass again.

“You mean my yoga pants.”

“They should be illegal.”

A faint blush streaked along her neck and into her cheeks. “Noah…” She glanced back to the door Austin had just disappeared through and slowly slid her gaze to mine. “Friends, remember.”

I held up my hands. “Sorry. You just caught me off guard.”

“Well, me and my yoga pants apologize. Now, don’t you have somewhere else to be?”

“What? No. I’m going to be right here.” Watching you bend and stretch in those skintight pants.

“This isn’t going to work, you know.” She cocked a brow, fisting her hips and glaring at me like I was a thorn in her side.

And maybe I was.

But she made it too damn easy.

“Sorry, what was that? I’m a little distracted over here, shortcake.”

Her lips pressed into a thin smile, but I saw the flash of amusement in her eyes. Aurora enjoyed this easy banter between us. The harmless flirtation.

Even if my thoughts were anything but harmless.

“Whatever, Noah. I’m heading out.” She grabbed her bottle of water and headed for the back door.

“Enjoy your yoga, shortcake,” I called after her, almost certain I saw her shoulders shake with silent laughter.
