Thank God.

I wasn’t sure I would survive losing my first friend to my brother’s sexual proclivities.

“Sorry about that,” I said.

“Sorry?” Harper gawked at me. “You’re Austin Hart’s sister, and you’re apologizing to me? Girl, you just made my entire semester. This is so freaking cool.”

It hit me then, an icy chill going through me.

“You’re a hockey fan, aren’t you?”

“Hells yeah.” She beamed. “My dad played for the Lakers back in the day. I’ve followed them ever since I was old enough to attend games with him.”

“That’s… nice.”

It wasn’t.

It was my worst freaking nightmare.

“Why do you look like I just kicked your puppy? Austin Hart is your brother. I find it hard to believe you’re related to a Laker and don’t like hockey.” I grimaced, and she frowned. “Oh. Wow, this suddenly got all kinds of awkward. I mean, I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed or anything. I just enjoy a game now and again.”

“Harper, it’s fine. I knew what I was signing up for when I came to LU. It’s a hockey college. I know that. Just promise me you won’t go all dreamy-eyed every time my brother shows up out of nowhere.”

“I’ll try my best.” She grinned. “Does this mean you’re friends with the entire team?”

“I… I live with Connor Morgan and Noah Holden.”

“Holy shit. Now there’s an introduction I wouldn’t mind.”

“Connor?” I asked, hopeful.

“No way, he’s got a serious girlfriend. I’m talking about Noah. He looks like he’d be down for a good time.”

“You mean, you haven’t heard the stories?”

“Of course I have.” Her eyes lit up with interest. “I subscribe to The Daily Puck. He’s always in the gossip column.”

“I bet he is,” I murmured.

“Sorry, what?”

“Nothing.” I forced a smile.

I don’t know why her words hurt so damn much. I knew Noah was a self-professed manwhore. I also knew he was popular with the ladies.

I also knew he was kind and funny and didn’t take himself too seriously.

But I didn’t know him.

At least not in the way I wanted to.

And I never would.

CHAPTER 14

NOAH

“Jessica Rabbit, two o’clock,” Leon said, and our heads all turned to find a stunning redhead making her way across the café.
